India no match for China: Navy chief
Rahul Singh, Hindustan Times
New Delhi, August 11, 2009

Should war break out between India and China, we are doomed. Navy chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta publicly admitted on Monday that India was no match for China and there was no way New Delhi could bridge the yawning gap in its capabilities against China. He said it would be foolhardy to compare the two nations as equals.

Mehta, who retires on August 31 at the age of 62, warned:“In military terms, both conventionally and unconventionally, we can neither have the capability nor the intention to match China force for force…”

It is rare for service chiefs in India to articulate their concerns loudly. The government disapproves of it. But when a chief makes such a prophesy, he has to be taken seriously.

He said Beijing was in the process of consolidating its comprehensive national power and creating formidable military capability.“Once that is done, China is likely to be more assertive on its claims, especially in the immediate neighbourhood,” said Mehta, who as the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee, is the country’s senior most military commander.

He saw ominous signs everywhere while delivering a talk on India’s national security challenges on Monday.“Whether in terms of GDP, defence spending or any other economic, social or development parameter, the gap between the two is just too wide to bridge (and getting wider by the day).”

Mehta backed his claims with figures. He said India’s annual defence expenditure of roughly $30 billion paled in front of China’s defence spending. He said the Americans pegged China’s defence budget between $70 billion and $200 billion.

“Our trust deficit with China can never be liquidated unless our boundary problems are resolved…Coping with China will certainly be one of our primary challenges in the years ahead.”

India’s air power just 1/3rd of China: IAF Zeenews Bureau

Gandhinagar: The Air Chief Marshal PV Naik on Wednesday admitted that India was no match to China when it came to air power.

"Our present aircraft strength is inadequate. Aircraft strength is one third that of China. The Government of India is doing a lot to augment Air Force capability," Naik said.

Interestingly, former Navy chief Suresh Mehta had also, last month, claimed that India is no match to China when it comes to military strength.

haha, after the war in 1962,we are pretty happy all the way,and we are in a much better attacking position and make you Indians wait in constant fear for decades.we will come ,but you still need to suffer more of your harrowing sleepless nights.

India worried over China's military build up on Sino-Indian border
IANS Nov 15, 2011, 03.17pm IST

NEW DELHI: India said on Tuesday that it was concerned about China's expanding military capabilities and building military bases on the Sino-Indian border.

"China is expanding its military capabilities and building military infrastructure along the borders with us," Defence Minister A.K. Antony told reporters here.

"We are aware of that, and we are concerned about that," he said.

In the same breath, the minister said New Delhi was not too worried over Beijing's increasing presence in the Indian Ocean region.

China opened an embassy in the Maldives ahead of last week's SAARC summit in the atoll nation.

Antony said what caused worry was Beijing building military infrastructure along its winding border with India and expanding its defence reach.

"How can you prevent any country from establishing an embassy or furthering relations with any other country?" he asked. "We are also establishing embassies and building relations with every country."

He said India too was expanding its military capability and infrastructure on the eastern front.

"But it is not for confrontation with any country, but to defend our territory. We will strengthen the eastern sector."

Antony sounded positive on defence relations with China, noting that Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma will hold a dialogue with his Chinese counterpart next year.

A border management mechanism between the two sides will be in place by the end of this year, he added.

Lol

you can't do anything for your own territory controlled by India and you talking about liberation of Indian controlled territories?

IQ it is.

oh..really,haha,but someone there wont have a nice sleep
LOL

Who is moving the troops ? 300000 soldiers? I thought we have a weak army, right? But it seems the weak army has been controlling the super power land!

haha ,as long as you admit that you are occupying Chinese territory in front of the international community,we can find a way to solve it,but I hope you wont go back on your words.

The Chinese have reached a stage of political and diplomatic bankruptcy. They don't seem to have any strategy in place. Just like a kid hollering for a toy he knows he'll never get!

Arunachal will be part of India till the Sun becomes a red giant and the stars start winking out! In the meanwhile, the Chinese can continue with their :blah::blah::blah: whilst shedding copious tears! No one really cares a damn!

Cheers!

It's obvious from this article that india is trying to make a grab for Tibet, playing the Dalai Lama card. There is no alternative, China must level New Delhi with air strikes to teach them another 1962 lesson!

There are certainly a lot of people in india who want india to claim Tibet, but I'm not sure if the indian politicians will ever dare to express that to the Chinese. Of course, uncle sam would be very happy if india went for something like that. India has this secret desire to claim Tibet. On the other hand, india knows only too well what the consequence will be if it ever expresses that, so my hunch is that india will never let it come out of its soul, it will always remain a secret desire.

In that case, is it safe to assume that Tibet will be soon part of india?
