True in a sense. As I've mentioned before a bank's profit can increase by 10% per year but they do not need to hire more people as it's dealing mainly in virtual currency. A manufacturing firm's revenue increasing by 10% per year will need to hire more people to meet product demand. That is real job creation.

No. Putin is as much pragmatist and realist as you are. He does not put all his bets on China, either. It is international relations and nobody falls in love with nobody.

Putin isn't pulling any of our rope in Ukraine. He has instead made things far worse for himself(he should have topped with Crimea if he was indeed smart, but he wanted more). Since it has made all other Balkan and even Scandinavian countries who were once wary of NATO and western powers to now be seeking our protection/help, to the point that they are willing to join NATO and allow us to set up military bases there, something they would never have agreed to in the past if not for Russia's aggressions. Now our troops are just a few km away from Russia's mainland itself, since we now have troops in almost all Balkan countries, plus military advisers/soldiers in a now western oriented Ukraine. This has only solidify NATO position and showed other countries that NATO indeed serves a purpose

All this while the sanctions will keep biting them economically. Even historically peaceful non aggressive scandinavian countries like Sweden are now thinking of Joining NATO(something nobody would have ever imagine just 2 years ago), all thanks to Putin's aggressions/provocations. He is doing a good job for us. Putin even warned them. Making things only worse for himself as Sweden will see it as one more reason to join us.lol

You as a Chinese should know how hard it is to live under an over bearing/powerful Russia when a country is weak(since you people had your fair share of bullying and land seized/annexed by Russia when you were weak.lol). Russia has always been an expansionists power for centuries, it will keep pushing until it meets a response. So will have no choice other than to respond and make them calm down.


I agree with your other points though, U.K-China relations are mostly business oriented, not political/military/strategic. Even the U.S has far deeper economic relations with China than we have, so we are merely playing catch up in that regard, nothing much to read from that, unlike what some dramatic people here think. So you are right on this one.

You keep waiting for that, but still, Sweden's case is not a thing of yesteryear. They have been debating this since 2008. Your arguments somehow tend to be historically myopic.

Under present international conditions, we know what poses greater threat to us, so, thanks but no thanks for the advice.

On this, you prefer to be historical, though, and this is good. But, historically, again, who was not expansionist？ On this, we do not take historical precedence as a strong determinant as China's policies make it very clear.

Only thing we need to do is to make sure that no one dares to touch an inch of our land once again. I mean NO ONE. Other than this, Russia is our most significant strategic partner, you like it or not.

Even the U.S has far deeper economic relations with China than we have, so we are merely playing catch up in that regard, nothing much to read from that, unlike what some dramatic people here think.

UK is becoming important as China focuses more on the Eurasian context. How European UK is; that's debatable. But, UK is a nice bridgehead to both Europe and the US. UK is ripe to function as a bridgehead for China.

Of course, this does not mean China ignores real European powerhouses, including Germany and France. Especially Germany.

As Europe's Second largest and fastest growing major economy, The U.K and London in particular is often describe as the most open/welcoming country in Europe and even the West. Many people who come here always tend to feel at home better than in any other city in Europe. Continuing with Chinese president Grand reception at the Royal Palace.

China, UK sign landmark deals
October 22, 2015

Beijing and London secured deals worth about 40 billion pounds ($62 billion) on Wednesday during President Xi Jinping's first state visit to the UK.

According to the British government, the cash generated by the new deals will help to create 3,900 jobs across the UK.

The most eye-catching is an agreement for China to partly finance a UK nuclear power plant, which British Prime Minister David Cameron hailed as "historic". It is also the first major Chinese investment in a Western nuclear facility.

Cameron said Britain had also sealed oil and gas deals with China worth more than 12 billion pounds, including with BP PLC. It also landed a 2.6 billion pound deal to make new cruise ships, according to a Reuters report.

Speaking at the UK-China Business Summit after his meeting with Xi, Cameron said the UK and China will support each other in their ambitious development plans and empower each other to ensure prosperity.

He said Britain will be China's best partner in the West, and that is "in our national interests".

Xi said China will continue to encourage more Chinese companies to invest in the UK, while welcoming UK firms to come and do business in China.

As confirmed by Xi and Cameron during their media briefing, China's General Nuclear Corp will take a one-third stake in the planned $28 billion Hinkley Point nuclear plant owned by France's EDF.

The power generated at Hinkley Point is expected to come on stream in 2025. As the largest inward investment ever in the UK, the British government said it will generate enough energy to power 6 million homes.

CGN will also take a two-thirds stake in the Bradwell nuclear plant east of London, where it plans to build a Chinese-designed reactor, which will be China's first showcase for its nuclear technology.

The company will also take a one-fifth stake in a project for Areva-designed reactors at the Sizewell plant in eastern England.

Other cooperation initiatives include a deal with Aston Martin and China Equity to produce a zero-emissions car.

London Taxi Company, owned by the Chinese company Geely, has also announced further investment to launch a new generation of zero-emissions black cabs.

"We think there are really good opportunities for British and Chinese companies to cooperate in many sectors, such as e-commerce, energy, resources, financial resources, services, healthcare and infrastructure," Stephen Phillips, chief executive of the China-Britain Business Council, told China Daily.

The council is a London-based organization that helps British companies to increase and develop their business in China.

"The UK needs infrastructure — new energy. So if Chinese investment is making that happen sooner than it would happen — if the investment is there — that will obviously be positive for the UK economy," Phillips said.
