ahahahhaah, i have heard several times about this. But none has made any effect . Recently it was the COS. where is it now?lol
The communist party should have long developed their own system long time ago and imposed it on the populace/companies if they stand any chance of challenging android/apple/microsoft. Otherwise now its too late for you people, since America software companies already dominate the whole ecosystem.. Why dont you just keep using android/windows like you have been doing all these years/decades?

LOOOL, I think the communist party are all crooks/corrupt/short sighted/inefficient/incompetent, unlike what others will like us to believe, how a genius they are.lol In fact i think had the KMT(nationalists) been in control of China, then China giving its large hard working/smart/entrepreneurial population would have been self sufficient in all fields today. Too bad Mao won and took them back several decades behind. Its good for us though.
Just look at small Taiwan who has largest semi conductor industries/companies like TMSC which China and even countries like South Korea can only dream of. Taiwan(and hong Kong till 1997) were lucky to have escaped the communists.

Whatever you do with Linux, it will not be like Windows and Mac OS X has done a great thing in creating an easy to use Unix like operating system. After all these 22 years, Linux has not done something great but it is still mostly known as developer's operating system and not a user's operating system.

Complete opposite for me , just a general user . For most of day to day activities like browsing internet ,music, videos and certain games , it is more than enough , which most people use computer for. I triple boot win7 (factory installed),fedora(gnome) and pc-bsd with fedora as main OS and it feels very easy to use and looks very beautiful.I hope more people will adopt it..

These kind of shameful comments are the reason the West has so much power and influence over others. Liberals remain the biggest threat to China internally.

Even if the Chinese operating system isn't as good as Microsoft, patriots should use the Chinese OS to support it.

If the Chinese OS is not the best but still good enough, then use it if you want China to develop technologically.

I cannot understand why Chinese patriots buy expensive foreign brands at the expense of Chinese brands and give the Western companies Chinese money so they can build weapons to destroy China.

I'm not too hopeful, so far every attempt has been based on the linux kernel. To start from scratch will take a long time to make a worthy OS

When your life is at risk, you will do anything to survive. This concept you must understand, my friend. Before there is no risk but the US gave us the final coffin with NSA program. So we are slowly creating an ecosystem ourselves. Let not forget, we have 1.3 billion people. The size is large enough to create an ecosystem.

Don't need a Microsoft to create an OS.
And by embargo to Microsoft software, China could have a big market of OS, unluckily the majority of users would use the cracked version of domestic OS if it come with a price.

It looks beautiful because of its desktop environment. After all these years, we still have to write command for start-up application. Elementary OS has new option for that but all other famous distributions have the same thing. Installing program in fedora and other distributions based on it is still a headache. It seems like developers are not even trying to make Linux user friendly except some of them. Pear OS was a great distribution but don't know why they discontinued it.

After all these years, we still have to write command for start-up application.

Linux is still considered a geek's OS. I for one likes to tweak the system and use command line. I have sticked with Debian for almost 13 years. .

. Installing program in fedora and other distributions based on it is still a headache.

Not really? you will have to learn yum instead of apt and a good internet connection(which is a must for almost all distro's).

I hope India pursues something like this too, it's fairly important to create your own eco system.
