China to help Bangladesh become middle income country by 2021

DHAKA, Oct 21, 2012 (BSS) - China has decided to provide its all supports especially in infrastructure, trade, investment and information technology sectors to turn Bangladesh into a middle
income country by 2021.
This is revealed today while visiting Standing Committee Member of Political Bureau of Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Li Changchun called on President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban here.
During the meeting, President Rahman welcomed the Chinese delegation for the visit and termed China as one of the major development partners of Bangladesh.
The President observed that traded and commerce relations between Bangladesh and China would be reached a new height after establishment of direct road link between Dhaka and Kunming via
Myanmar.
The President urged the Chinese government to provide more
support for the country's infrastructure, power and information
technology sectors side by side increasing trade relations.
Reiterating Bangladesh believes in 'one-China policy', the
President expressed his gratitude to the government and people of
China for providing continuous support to Bangladesh for the
country's development in the last three and a half decades.
Through the delegation, Zillur Rahman congratulated Chinese
writer MO Yan for winning the Nobel Prize in literature and
stated that this is truly recognition of long history and
glorious culture of China.
The Chinese delegation apprised President Rahman that they
have signed three bilateral instruments with Bangladesh today in
front of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for strengthening economic
and technical collaboration in different areas including power
sector.
The instruments include one agreement on Economic and
Technical Cooperation, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on
electric power and a framework agreement on a concessional loan
for water treatment, they apprised.
Changchun highly lauded the recent economic advancement of
Bangladesh and hoped that the country would be able to become a
middle income country by 2021.
Expressing gratitude to Bangladesh for supporting the one-
China policy, he said China is keen to establish direct road
connectivity with Bangladesh via Myanmar.
The Chinese delegation apprised the President that number of
Chinese government scholarship to Bangladesh has been doubled to
160 from 80.
The Political Bureau member recalled that the Bangladesh-
China relations were initiated by China visit of Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Chinese delegation comprised Minister of International
Department of CPC Central Committee Wang Jiarui, Education
Minister Yuan Guiren, Cultural Minister Cai Wum, Radio, Film and
Television Minister Cai Fuchao, Press and Publication Minister
Liu Binjie, Vice Minister on Publicity Department Sun Zhijun,
Vice Minister for Commerce Jianfg Zengwei and Chinese Ambassador
to Bangladesh Li Jun.

DHAKA, Oct 21, 2012 (BSS)- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today laid importance on making stronger relations with China and sought more Chinese investment in the areas of energy, agriculture and infrastructure development.
Bangladesh gives high importance to its relations with China, which can be possible through boosting Chinese investment in Bangladesh, assistance in infrastructure development, regional connectivity and support to removing trade deficit, she said.
The Prime Minister said this at a meeting with a high- powered delegation of the Central Committee of Chinese Communist Party at her office here today.
Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau (CPC) Central Committee Li Changchun led the delegation.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said the Prime Minister urged the Chinese delegation for more investment in different sectors offering land for Chinese companies in special economic zones in Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh Awami League as one of the oldest political parties of the region, has excellent cooperative relations with Chinese Communist Party and the two parties can work together for regional peace and stability.
She recalled that the relations between Bangladesh Awami League and Chinese Communist Party had gained ground through the visits of angabandhu in 1953 and 1957. Based on that foundation, the relations between the two countries are progressing ahead, she said.
Sheikh Hasina reiterated her continued support for 'one China policy', and said the two countries share common views and stand on many global issues at the international forum.
Urging the delegation to inspire their traders to import more Bangladeshi goods, she said Dhaka would welcome more Chinese investment in agro- processing, energy and power, pharmaceutical,
communications and infrastructure development sectors.
Sheikh Hasina briefed the delegation on her government's success in different areas including community health, food production, education and women empowerment.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) delegation included Minister for International Department of CPC Central Committee Wang Jiarui, Education Minister Yuan Guiren, Cultural Affairs Minister Cai Wu, Minister for State Administration of Radio, Film and Television Cai Fuchao, Minister for General Administration of Press and Publication Liu Binjie and Vice Minister of Commerce Jiang Zengwei.
Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, State Minister for Power Enamul Haque, Ambassador at-Large M Ziauddin, PM's Principal Secretary Shiekh M Wahid Uz Zaman, PMO Secretary Mollah Wahiduzzaman, ERD Secretary Iqbal Mohmood, Power Secretary Abul Kalam Azad and Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Li Jun were present on the occasion.
The Chinese delegation leader offered the Prime Minister of Chinese government's support for expansion of the Pagla Water Treatment Plant and cooperation for development of road and connectivity.
The Chinese government also decided to make double the scholarship for Bangladeshi students to pursue their studies in China, he said. He laid importance on more political, commercial and cultural exchange between the two countries.
The Chinese delegation appreciated the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Vision 2021 as well as Bangladesh's progress in different areas under her able leadership.
