BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Xi Jinping said Wednesday the Communist Party of China (CPC) will strive to fully transform the people's armed forces into world-class military by the mid-21st century.

By the year 2020, mechanization will be basically achieved, with IT application coming a long way and strategic capabilities seeing a big improvement. The modernization of the national defense and armed forces should be basically completed by 2035, Xi said at the opening session of the 19th CPC National Congress.

The CPC will build a powerful and modernized army, navy, air force, rocket force, and strategic support force, develop strong and efficient joint operations commanding institutions for theater commands, and create a modern combat system with distinctive Chinese characteristics, he said.

"A military is built to fight," he said, stressing combat capability as the criterion to meet.

Technology is the core combat capability, he said, adding the people's military will be made more innovative.

The CPC will speed up development of intelligent military, and improve combat capabilities for joint operations based on network information system and the ability to fight under multi-dimensional conditions.

Founded in 1927, the People's Liberation Army now commands about two million service personnel. Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC has put forward the goal of building a strong military that follows the Party, fights to win and forges exemplary conduct.

A new military structure has been established with the Central Military Commission exercising overall leadership, the theater commands responsible for military operations, and the services focusing on developing capabilities.

The military has carried out major missions related to the protection of maritime rights, countering terrorism, maintaining stability, disaster rescue and relief, international peacekeeping, escort services in the Gulf of Aden, and humanitarian assistance.

All depend on China economy health growing, opportunistic behaviors in the real estate market must end or manufacturing industry dying, that unhealthy economy to lead west subprime crisis, some m@therf@ckers still copying America 2008 subprime crisis in China, if BeiJing not end the pour speculative “hot money” into real estate market instead of manufacturing industry and increase M2 money printing, ppl will pay for it.

If China need a healthy economy, to drive 'hot money' return manufacturing industry ... current land economy policy must need change or even China economy is huge will become next "Titanic" !

The last TEN-YEAR time of Hu + Wen lead China, in my eyes like the old time of 1980s USSR ... they set a big economy “Subprime-Bomb” in China to later BeiJing government, 提拔的人大部分是贪官。

President Xi had got the very concerns of yours and many others

The remarks were made as part of the official document in the 19th CPC Congress, mentioned by President Xi Jinping himself as well (iirc it's covered by President Xi's 3.5-hour-long speech).

Just be patient and allows it some time for the right re-orientation of resources... I also detest seeing some individual greedy businessmen (the richest men) exploit that sector... and indeed some largest corporations were called out for some possible wrongdoings and are facing the immediate credit tightening (their very bloodline)... At some point of time in the past these rapid growth in property might be necessary to quickly even instantly stimulate or offset economic down-turn in particular post-2008 Great Financial Crisis (think of all the necessary inputs in building properties, from the raw to semi-finished materials to a vast range of final or consumer products)... but today the policies urgently need some large reworks.

Think also the would-be spin-off advantages to propel the R&D, technological and industrial advancements into the civilian sectors as well as to fill in the available industrial capacities and the corresponding economical benefits (employment etc). I remember there's a clear call for the closer cooperation and integration between civil-military sectors. And unlike the other aspired giant that's spending the lion share of its defence expenses doing shopping spree around the globe, China spends most of its funds in the domestic industry.

Strong armed forces is definitely needed.

Looked at recent history, when you were weak:-
Foreigners in China are not subjected to the law of your land;
Foreign patrol boats and frigates cruised more than 1,000 km inland in Yangtze River/ Chang Jiang to protect their core interest and collect customs tax.
Foreign spy planes flying all over your sky at will.
Foreign ships frequently sailed into your territorial water as they like.
They sell opium in your land for huge profits with immunity.
They looted the Forbidden Palace and burned down the Summer Palace.
And they grabbed your land with or without unfair treaties.

All these stopped when your armed forces is strong.
