BEIJING: An angry China has asked Japan to mind its own business instead of interfering in India-China relationship. The reaction came after Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said over the weekend that Arunachal Pradesh is part of Indian territory.

China, which claims ownership of the state, said that "Arunachal Pradesh, which includes three areas in Tibet Autonomous Region -- Monyul, Loyul and Lower Tsayul, is currently under Indian illegal occupation".

Kishida announced that Japan was ready to invest in infrastructure projects in India's landlocked northeast. But it would not invest in Arunachal Pradesh although Japan did saw it as Indian territory.

Reacting to Japanese minister's statement, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei said, "We are seriously concerned about this and have lodged serious representation with the Japanese side".

"We hope Japan can fully understand the sensitivity of China-India border issues and respect the efforts that both sides have taken to resolve the disputes through negotiations," the spokesman added. Japan should be "prudent in its words and actions," he said. Hong said China and India are trying to to resolve the boundary question in a manner that is fair, reasonable and acceptable to both sides .

He pointed out that Japan had earlier said that it holds no position and it will not intervene in the disputed area between China and India . It should now make a clarification about the statement, and "removing the negative implications" arising from it.

China regards the "Mcmahon Line" as illegal and claims areas in North East along the line as Chinese territory.

Infrastructure projects are well within Indian territory. I don't understand the necessity of this debate, the plan for infrastructure development in India's northeastern states (and union territories) include Assam, Nagaland, et al -- and this correlates with the Japanese premise of being an integral hand in linking Northeast India to Myanmar and Bangladesh. These are projects that will, in the future, boost the trade between India, Bangladesh, Myanmar (+ continental Asean) and with China, which shares contiguous border with India, Myanmar.

Misstep by Japanese politician.
Japanese politicians are usually very good at being ambiguous so that they can appeal to both sides.

The point is this -- Japan will not be investing in infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh or any territories that are disputed. Kishida was merely engaging in diplomatic speech to appease the Indian side. The Chinese side should not be too overly-critical. Again, there will be no Japanese participation in areas that both China and India dispute. True to Japan's non-interventionist policy.

The Chinese media should not be too overly-critical. As the Americans would say, "Don't make a mountain out of a mole-hill."

Chinese are overly (and sometimes unjustifiably) sensitive for they do not trust Japanese. Unfortunately, Manchurian wounds are still seeping blood.

Kishida should have been more sensitive , in my honest opinion. He has the habit of making mistakes. Again, our friends in China shouldn't have to worry since Japanese mission in India is to increase trade and overall working on a more stable South Asia. We have no preferences here -- as we are even engaged in increasing ties with Pakistan and to increase investments in the country, such as the Lakhra Power Plant and also more manufacturing plants in the country.

That said, the Chinese friends are also equally vested in investing in both Pakistan and India, especially in infrastructural developments. We are all in this together.

Nasty Indians are setting this up and the insidious Japanese are duly obliged
Indians aint even trust the quality of their own engineers for infrastructures and the result of placing the Japanese at this contentious junction thereby is to reinforce the environment for military deployments and unilaterally upsets the balance of the negotiating scale tilting to their favour with the added Japanese weight

We Chinese don't really care of what Japan do with India as business but about Kishida's statement that Arunachal Pradesh is part of Indian territory, how you like if our foreign minister said that Kuril islands are part of Russia? I believe that Russia will be delighted to hear this...and nothing prevent us from cooperate with Russians over infrastructure projects on these islands.

remember sir me talking about needing a foreign policy which is defined. It saves one from moments like these. Or maybe this was intended because the reaction was expected with such high profile level statements. I wonder what is up? I never understand the Japanese mind too complicated for me :(

When Russia had openly invited other nations to invest on Kuril islands, we Chinese has refreined ourself not to piss Japan off but if Japan make the first move to support India over the territory claim, Japan won't have any reason to stop China to reciprocate.

Diplomacy is so complex, my friend, and trying to understand it , I myself get confused.

But I think I understand why the Chinese side are being overly critical. Japan was invited by India to invest in its Northeast States + Union Territories. Japanese companies will have the opportunity to help the development of the northeast specially to build roads, and aid agriculture, forestry and water supply and sewerage in these states. What is also important to duly note is that the Indian Government has actively discouraged and / or rejected Chinese planned investments in the Northeast of India.

So it is understandable why our Chinese colleagues would be overly sensitive of this 'preferential treatment' the Government of India has on Japan. China's reaction to this -- is being projected to Japan , as I'm sure Beijing does not want to (aggressively that is) over-criticize India due to the precarious relationship they have regarding border areas.

Again, I want to emphasize that from my readings on Japanese media --- the Japanese firms will be pouring investments on key and select regions in India's northeast and these include Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Sikkim, and Nagaland.

Apart from infrastructure development in North Eastern states, JICA is also actively assisting Delhi Metro project, which is in its third phase. JICA is also providing assistance to Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and the Chennai- Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) in South India, as well an assistance to strengthen Japan-India academic-industry networks, and human resources development for industries such as manufacturing.

I understand your reaction. But, friend, Japan IS NOT going to be building anything in disputed Arunachal Pradesh. I reiterate, there will be ZERO (0%) Japanese development in that disputed territory. JICA will be focused on developing roads, sewage systems, manufacturing and agricultural projects in areas that are much further to the south. Areas include Meghalaya, Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur.

Please, friend, don't be too overly-sensitive. Okay?

As i said earlier. Arunachal Pradesh is not part of JICA's investment plan. Don't make a mountain of a mole-hill -- in your irritation, friend.

Like I said we don't care about Japan investment on other part of India beside Arunachal Pradesh, but about your FM's statement, if you think that I'm over sensitive than what you think if our FM say the same about Kuril Islands.?

if Wang Yi declare that "Kuril islands are integral part of Russia but contested by Japan",we shall see if Japanese will make a mountain of a mole-hill....LMAO
