China red-flags India’s entry into NSG, may push for Pakistan

How the NTI Index Measures Nuclear Security Conditions | Nuclear Threat Initiative

To standards and inspection that India doesn't subscribe to, ranking will be obviously low.

Yes sure why not! Exempt India from criticism of its nuclear security being below Pakistan's standard because India doesn't subscribe to the standards and inspection regime of the NTI Index; but indict Pakistan on proliferation regarding A. Q. Khan case even though Pakistan does NOT subscribe to the NPT.

WOW! Very consistent of you I see...... NOT!

Yes, A. Q. Khan's proliferation activities do NOT matter legally since Pakistan is NOT a signatory to the NPT regime. Just as no one can hold the United States criminally responsible for using anti-personnel landmines before September 2014 since the 1999 Ottawa Convention which prohibits the use, stockpiling, production and transfer of anti-personnel landmines backed by most countries has not been endorsed by the United States, Russia, China and India.

However joining NSG as a full-fledged member requires India to sign the NPT. It got away before when NSG countries granted India a waiver for nuclear trade (not the same as official membership) but even for that India had to supply written guarantees that it will stick to a moratorium on further nuclear tests in addition to other guarantees.

So you can giggle all you like but it won't be India who will be having the last laugh on this issue.

Cheap talk. Nothing concrete. India isn't getting NSG membership anytime soon. Your juvenile optimism is the same optimism seen in Indian circles when a few years ago there was sudden hype and much premature jubilation over UNSC being expanded with India gaining permanent seat at the UNSC. Well that wet-dream fizzled out and in time, so will the NSG membership one. Goodluck.

I dont think so.We already moved our first step when we got a unique waiver from NSG for nuke business.
Now all we need is a formal member ship in NSG.Thats all.
About UNSC.That is entirely different thing.

Again, everyone knows the written guarantees India had to give to NSG to get that waiver such as moratorium on any nuclear tests at all which means India CANNOT build new generation nuclear weapons since without testing, nothing can be improved up on. So as for full NSG membership, I say its not a crime to dream.

Not including Pakistan into NSG is an utter discrimination. Pakistan should be lobbying GCC states along with China to push for NSG membership. We thank China for backing Pakistan on this one.

Parity with India in all aspects is wildest dream of many Pakistanis n not gonna happen at least in near future..... Pakistan has lost its relevance by its dubious nature in fighting terrorism.... Same time Pakistan self posturing as a strong n responsible country in geopolitics to get parity will not get enuff heed except some arabs world n china.....
On topic
India should play its card very smartly.....

So you're saying by trying desperately all measures to attain a permanent UNSC seat and now the full NSG membership is not India's way of trying to seek parity with China? Whoa! You're logic is on a different plain of existence I must say.

hehe inspection of NTI...The 2014 Nuclear Threat Initiative Nuclear Materials Security Index is the second edition of a unique public assessment of nuclear materials security conditions around the world.

you sure about that

Pakistan never engaged in proliferation, AQK did, his network was shut. Lets not talk about proliferation, we all know who provided nukes to Israel.
Hope AQK resumes.Other Muslim nations should acquire nukes also.

So you're saying that NPT always existed since the world began? There wasn't a year when NPT was a nascent treaty? The issue I raised was about principle, if you do not subscribe to a particular set of rules, you cannot be judged by them. Thanks for missing the entire point and launching in to a ludicrous and irrelevant sarcastic jibe.

Whining about China's help to Pakistan in the nuclear weaponry field is pointless since your Uncle Obama who is backing your country (India) for NSG membership today is the head of state of the same country (United States) which, along with France handed over nuclear weaponry know-how to Israel.
Ignorance of historical facts does not hand you the license to discharge pointless rants.
China will make sure that India does not get access to NSG unless it signs the NPT otherwise the NSG loses whatever credibility it currently has.

Well then let's not utter credibility word at all...If being signatory to NPT China/US/France all have violated its norms then there is not point talking about credibility, no?? In short it all boils down to National interests and your importance in geo-politics...now given we have called spade a spade..let's see who wins...I for sure is not going to bet on Pakistan...you can make your own choice...

Did anywhere anyone mention India tried to get level itself with China in UNSC n nsg platfors.... ?
Our feet is on ground so know the gap between China n India in every aspects so better keep china aside the op is talking about how china creating backdoor hurdles for India aspirations.....

BEIJING: China on Monday reacted coldly to strong indications that the United States would back India for a membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, with the Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying cautioning that any such move "requires very careful consideration from all member countries".

"We support the group carrying out discussions on admitting new members, and at the same time we encourage India to take next steps to satisfy the relevant standards of the group," Hua said, indicating India should first accept the Non-Proliferation Treaty before aspiring for a place in the NSG.

NSG controls almost all international nuclear trade; its membership enables countries to freely use technology and nuclear material from other nations.

The spokeswoman's statement revealed serious differences between the perceptions of the Chinese government and US President Barack Obama, who has backed India's case during his ongoing visit to New Delhi.

Hua also said the issue is of the 48-member NSG "admitting new members" instead of confining the debate to India. Observers here believe China, which has helped Pakistan build two nuclear power plants, would lobby for a seat for Islamabad in the NSG if the US pushes for India.

China's opposition could hurt India's chances of joining the NSG because many of its members believe that acceptance of NPT — an international treaty that prevents signatories from acquiring nuclear weapons — is an essential prerequisite. The United States and Britain have backed India regardless.

"We believe that such (an) inclusion should be conducive to the integrity and effectiveness of the regime and decision should be made on consensus. We notice India's commitment to relevant issues," Hua said, suggesting China seems to think India does not meet all the conditions for a seat in the NSG.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Sunday said President Obama has assured him of strong US efforts in support of India's full membership of the four international export control regimes at the earliest, and indication of US backing for NSG membership.

China is emerging as a major exporter of nuclear technology and would want to control NSG's membership. By saying that the "decision should be made on consensus", it has indicated it will play an active role in NSG's decision making on India's case.

China red-flags India’s entry into NSG, may push for Pakistan - The Times of India

Actually, India want to have good relations with our neighbors. However they have a long term anti India design. Both are rogue country with a little control of civilian government on army. When India starts improving relationship with Pakistan, their army creates an atmosphere of conflict and distrust. We witnessed the same in Xi's visit forcing India to strengthening the tie with other country in India's strategic interest. Now, when India does that (Like every other country do), they find it difficult to digest and react in a manner which is not very decent. We as a nation have all the right to choose our friend and ally. We want to have you as the friends too but you have a sin in your stomach. You neither want to have a friendship with us nor you want us to have a friendship somewhere else. We know your design very well and know what to do to counter that. Pakistan is on its way of self-destruction and we are taking necessary step to show china its proper place. Indian ocean is ours so as subcontinent. We shall ensure that nobody else dominate that.

There is nothing new in that, but we are discussing about stopping India's entry to NSG and pushing Pakistan's entry to NSG, I dono if you could see the hypocrisy in it...... the out come of all this, will be a Delayed entry for India to NSG, and a further delayed entry of pakistan to NSG (if it really happens)

Well one need to look into it without bias..however how hard it is, we all know...Pakistan/China may like it or not however India is a rising power...and everything is linked to a robust economy...During UPA II when India was a lost story world stopped giving us importance contrast opposite to the way it used to treat us during UPA I...now with Modi in picture India is giving sign of regaining the lost steam.....and things in geo-politics is moving around...

China at some point will have to take a call...The more anti-India mode will further give strength to India-US-Japan tangle which to me is coming up at an unprecedented speed...it is going to be interested how long can China push for Pakistan in this saga...If history goes by it was same china who allowed India a waiver during nuclear civil deal...and Pakistan is yet to feature there...

Did anywhere anyone mention India tried to get level itself with China in UNSC n nsg platfors.... ? Our feet is on ground so know the gap between China n India in every aspects so better keep china aside the op is talking about how china creating backdoor hurdles for India aspirations.....

So you're saying trying to get a permanent seat at the UNSC with China sitting there already is not about seeking parity? Wow! Try fooling someone else or perhaps you are oblivious to your own naivety. As for 'feet on the ground', India trying to send probes to Mars before China is not about jumping high to one-up China in the Asian space race? How many more examples would you like me to give you to show just how desperate India is day-in and day-out to reach parity with China?

Well then let's not utter credibility word at all...If being signatory to NPT China/US/France all have violated its norms then there is not point talking about credibility, no?? In short it all boils down to National interests and your importance in geo-politics...now given we have called spade a spade..let's see who wins...I for sure is not going to bet on Pakistan...you can make your own choice...

So then going by your logic, you disagree with all your fellow Indians here who have been accusing Pakistan of proliferating nuclear weapons tech since being an NPT signatory doesn't mean much anyways and in Pakistan's case, it never signed up to the NPT regime in the first place; therefore its rules do not apply to a non-signatory which are flouted by even the signatories.

So good to know you call a spade a spade by agreeing that neither A. Q. Khan nor Pakistan did anything wrong by sharing nuclear tech.

So as for full NSG membership, I say its not a crime to dream.

Lol
We dont need test nuke on real conditions not any more.
In fact no other powers are interested in nuke testing.

And fot us dream would becom reality.
