China-Pakistan to cooperation in R&D of Tropical & Sub-Tropical Fruits

Islamabad (18 August) Pakistan gives high priority to China for collaboration in various sectors including for the development of agriculture for food security and poverty alleviation in the South Asia region. PARC also gives importance for cooperation in research and development of tropical and sub-tropical fruits with special focus on mango and their management. This was stated by Chairman Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) while presiding over a meeting with four members Chinese delegation during their visit to Pakistan on Thursday here at PARC (HQs). The Chinese delegation is led by Vice President, Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (YAAS), Yunnan Province, P. R.

On this occasion, Chairman PARC gave a presentation about PARC, its presence and set-ups in the provinces working in various areas across the country. During his presentation, he said that China is very good in foods value additions, post-harvest technologies, agricultural engineering and other areas.

The Chinese delegation showed their special interest in sharing of mango germplasm besides for collaboration in other tropical and subtropical fruits. Before meeting, they have visited National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) and its institute of Plant Genetic Resources Institute (PGRI), Gene-Bank, citrus screen house and other field crops area. They were very much impressed from PARC scientists’ research work and experiments of various horticultural and field crops at the centre. At the end of meeting, PARC Shields were awarded to Chinese delegations.

The Chinese delegation during their visit to Pakistan would also visit Sargodha citrus production area and Multan for mango production area to finalize their collaboration.
