China Now Using a Cruise Ship to Haul Troops and Tanks

Heh some pathetic Indians in here getting their panties all wet. I can't imagine how dented their psyche must be from 1962.

The ship is used during peace time to transport troops for exercise or relocation. Even in war time, it is unlikely to be used to take troops to the frontlines. China has amphibious assault ships and tank landing ships for that. Indians lecturing Chinese on logistics is like a failing student telling the second best performing kid in class that he's not studying right.

To use every available transport is a sign of desperation, much like the British evacuation of Dunkirk. These craft are neither designed nor able to survive in a hostile maritime environment, at best they can be said to rely on Total Chinese control of the skies, seas, and land. Against the US, this is of course an assumption with flaws.

To put it lightly, these are a deathtrap waiting to happen, the soldiers should hope sincerely this is just a propaganda move and not serious.

haha, You obviously haven't heard of the word "Mass Mobilization". The truth is, our nukes don't kill people, they are just propaganda tools, so relax and stop building missile defense.

Could this have something to do with disguise? I mean people won't suspect a cruise ship to be filled with troops.

Nops, when war is declared then the specific economic zone of the countries fighting wars also become target area and anything moving in it would be attacked upon, no matter what ship that is.

Even during wars, hospital ships have been also sunk.

And then the famous sinking of Lusitania: Sinking of the Lusitania

Every countries with strong shipping building prowess will do that. The RO-RO vessel shown @ post 8 and 11 look stylish!

Your statement very unfortunately also applied to US Merchant Navy. Check below:

The United States Merchant Marine is made up of the nation's civilian-owned merchant ships and the men and women that crew them. The merchant marine transports cargo and passengers during peace time. In time of war, the merchant marine[4] is an auxiliary to the Navy, and can be called upon to deliver troops and supplies for the military.

The people of the merchant marine are called merchant mariners, and are civilian except in times of war, when, in accordance with the Merchant Marine Act of 1936 they are considered military personnel. As of 2009, the United States merchant fleet numbered 422 ships[5] and approximately 69,000 people. Seven hundred ships owned by American interests but registered, or flagged, in other countries are not included in this number.

And for Indian posters, yes, you also have Indian Merchant Navy LOL!.

Actually almost every major nations have merchant navy or merchant marine. The last major mobilisation is of course by the Brirish during Falkland war.

Having civilian ships act as supply tankers and offloading soldiers in areas under total control is one thing (which i mentioned is their only useful purpose, they are not meant for war zones), transporting soldiers onto and through a hostile battlefield? Totally different.

Wait, the article said the ship is to transport troops trough a hostile battlefield?
So it's not a show of desperation? :thinktank:

There is no indication anywhere that said the civilian ship will be used in war zone. PLAN has armed transport for war zones.

Also, I dont see China's merchant navy formation is any sign of desperation.

Our warships will cleanse the oceans of our enemies first. The transport ships are just to deliver deliver troops to Tokyo, Okinawa, Guam, Hawaii, Saigon and Manila for the death blow.
