Most likely reason for OV-10 deployment is because of the Light Attack/Arme Reconnaissance program.

Indeed, the Su-25 would have been an ideal aircraft in that role ... however today it is surely dated and most of its roles are or will be fulfilled by drones or the Z-10.

However IMO an aircraft similar to the Scorpion would be fine
