China may send navy for rescue operations to Japan

China may be involved in background talks with the Japanese government to offer the services of its navy for rescuing people affected by the tsunami if and when necessary, informed sources said.

Liang Guanglie, China's defense minister called his Japanese counterpart, Toshimi Kitazawa, to offer condolences as well as military assets. But the full extent of his offers was not disclosed.

China has a large fleet of amphibious ships near the Japanese coast, and is capable of deploying them at a moment's notice, sources said.

If Tokyo accepts such a proposal, it will mean rewriting the saga of Sino-Japanese relationship, which has been adversely affected by disputes on the ownership of islands.

japan desperately needs choppers to airlift in supplys and out airlift out people.

.
Natural disasters tend to overcome political barriers. Hopefully the PLA could be of great use in the rescue operations and help as many Japanese people as possible.

The offer might not be politically tenable for the Japanese PM. I'm hoping it isn't the case but he might have to turn the Chinese offer for help down.

bad idea, i will just leave them and doing nothing if i were chinese government.

The current Japanese government was in political trouble before this earthquake, their FM resigned just a few days before because he received campaign donations from a foreign national. Given the propensity for the Japanese people to chuck out government one after the other, the handling of this crisis is going to make or break the Kan government.

Taipei - Japan has declined Taiwan's offer to send rescue teams to Japan's earthquake-hit areas for now, but requested relief materials from Taipei, the Foreign Ministry said Sunday.
'Japan told us that due to the chaos in the disaster areas, it will notify us (regarding dispatching rescue teams) after assessing the damages,' a ministry statement said.
'However, Japan has given us a list of the materials it needs, and we hope civic groups and individuals can contact the Foreign Ministry if they want to supply these materials,' it added.
It said Japan requested 500 generators, 500 kerosene cookers, 1,000 sets of warm clothing, 500 sleeping pads or sleeping bags, 1,000 pairs of warm gloves and non-perishable food such as biscuits.
Since the magnitude-9 quake triggered a massive tsunami Friday, Taipei has donated 100 millionTaiwandollars (3.3 million US dollars) and offered to send rescue and medical teams to Japan.

That is a stupid idea. If the Japanese agree that, We will leave a future trouble.
In the future, if the disaster occurred in China, Japan sought to send troops to help us. How we do that?

.
that's impossible. No foreign army allows to step into Japanese territory except american.
