Zumwalt was NOT intended to replace destroyer squadron to begin with, notice the USN originally wanted 32 while US have planned about 80 Arleigh-Burke Class destroyer (And current number planned is upward to 110) Unless you are claiming the 32 Zumwalt originally planned is to replace 80 destroyer, your point does not fly.
People don't understand the project would think like you did, thinking Zumwalt is a failure, because of cost overrun. People think These ship cost 4 billions to build so the Navy cannot afford those ship and only build 4. But the fact is the other way around, those ship cost 4 billions to build BECAUSE they only build 3. Why? The Design has already pay off, which mean the program cost is ALWAYS going to be 22 billions, regardless on how many Zumwalt the Navy orders, they can order 3, they can order 30, the program cost is still going to be 22 Billions. And with each ship build, the cost per ship WILL GO DOWN, because the R&D cost is shared amongst each ship. So if they build 7, then each ship with cost around 3 billions, and if they keep the 32 order, each ship will cost around 2 to 2.5 billions (Which is similar to a AB Flight 3 Cost)
Why the Navy terminate the project if they have already pay for the R&D and money is not a problem? That's because Zumwalt is too advance, and the US Navy have overestimated the threat that they face, the "threat" does not exist because Zumwalt is an unique ship that does not have an equal in the world. And the fact is, Arleigh Burke Class is still capable to handle foreign threats even tho it is a 30 years old design. That is what killed Zumwalt's. Why keep the fleet of ship that the world have no answer for when you can deal with the problem with the current asset? And if and when the world get to that stage where Arleigh Burke Class can no longer face the threat, they can just as easy resume Zumwalt Production, however, I highly doubt this is the case, because by then, the US Navy would have the "Next Generation" destroyer even better than the Zumwalts.
Yeah, keep your wishful thinking for yourself, this is not about Zumwalt, this is China railguns thread, unless you have information about it, you just attempting to derailed this thread. You still want discuss your beloved Zumwalt, make your own thread, and go discuss somewhere else!
You are a funny poster. The words are written on the walls on over the market places: China railgun is the best since chopsticks were invented.
Chinese invented chopstick so Viet can stop groping their food with their bare hand, is that quite funny for you ? LoL.
