China intends to oust dollar from oil trade

If I was a Taiwanese I would not bother even fighting the inevitable. It's better to live and become more prosperous under one country. The opportunities for both Taiwanese and mainland Chinese when Taiwan is under CPC control is boundless. I am hoping I won't be too old when this happens.

I will drink a bottle of whiskey to celebrate, lol.

That's the overwhelming feeling, I must say.

For sour grapes, it is a doze of fatalism.

For those who believe in the resurgence of Greater China, it is a must.

Most people favor medium-term status quo and long term political solution and eventual reunification.

Like it or not, China's crude oil futures will be a global benchmark

* Chinese crude benchmark all but inevitable-executives

* Rise of China's crude futures expected to be gradual

SINGAPORE, Sept 10 (Reuters) - China's push to establish a crude derivatives contract has been met with early scepticism, but oil executives say the country's growing economic influence means a third global crude benchmark is inevitable.

A derivatives contract would give the Shanghai International Energy Exchange, known as INE, a slice of an oil futures market worth trillions of dollars, offering a rival to London's Brent and U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI).

And while others have tried and failed, China brings its might as the world's biggest oil buyer, a strong dose of political will and the alignment of its financial and banking system for a yuan-denominated contract.

"The energy industry is still manned, literally, by people from the West. But the world moves on, and there's a change of guard," said a senior market executive, speaking on the sidelines of a major industry gathering in Singapore this week, at which delegates spoke on condition of anonymity.

"China has become the world's biggest oil trader, and that means that an oil price will be set there, like it or not."

Shanghai's INE is in the final stages of launching crude oil futures, perhaps as early as October, although sources said delays were likely due to market turmoil.

The contract would better represent China's growing importance in setting crude prices, increase the yuan's role as an international currency and offer a measure of national pride.

It would also allow traders to arbitrage between major global regions, the Americas, Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) and the Asia/Pacific.

But many executives see the success of a China contract as a given, even if the take-up is gradual.

"One-by-one, the oil-majors will start to participate, then others will follow," said an executive with a Western oil major. "While it might take some time to establish itself due to choppy markets and regulatory hurdles as well as the fact that it would introduce a foreign exchange element to crude futures, it is overdue for a Chinese contract to established."

It is inevitable. Best for the US to accept this & find ways to co-operate then to do otherwise.

A move that's overdue, but also extremely dangerous. Attacking the petrodollar system was the trigger for US aggression against Iraq and Libya. It's also one of the biggest stumbling blocks in Iran-US relations.

We could invade and incorporate all the remaining Spratly islands tomorrow, and the US wouldn't really care, only sending us an angry letter. But maintaining monetary hegemony is one of the US' red lines. Recall how angry they were when China established the AIIB - it was a lot more passionate than 'concern' over hacking, island disputes, human rights, etc. The petrodollar system is another pillar of US monetary hegemony. I hope the Chinese government is prepared for US fury that may translate into actions.
That is why DF-5B, DF-21D and DF-26 are unveiled and China is no Iraq or libya. Bring it on if US can.

oh well....i wont mind of our next generation goes back to the stone age..
The American just need to behave like the British of accepting the second.

We can cooperate in some areas, but China and America aren't ever going to be "friends". They have been trying to contain us since 1949.

America's real "friends" are the KMT.

According to Putin, American needs no friend but vassals.

KMT is willing to become a vassal state of the US, hence the US would take them.

Exactly. Cooperation with business-minded people like Trump is fine and possible but, on the geopolitical level, the two will forever be competitors.

@Beast @ChineseTiger1986 There will be no direct conflict with the US. US respect power. US will most likely try to stir up trouble in China and use her pawns to start trouble with China.

China trade is tie with US. Smacking China is just like smacking its own hand. For example, Apple has all its manufacturing plant in China and CHina is also second largest market for iphone. How can US hurt China? :D Apple is just one of the thousands of example.

What about inciting internal strife? How about a "chemical" blast here and there to disrupt China's growth? Ever heard of Operation Gladio? US and CIA is capable of this. Always keep the guard up:

"discredit politicians through the use of “the strategy of tension,” including false-flag terrorism. The strategy of tension is a concept for control and manipulation of public opinion through the use of fear, propaganda, agents provacateurs, terrorism, etc. The aim was to instill fear into the populace while framing communist and left-wing political opponents for terrorist atrocities."

Are they really fighting ISIS or merely using them to cause the chaos?

ISIS is the proxy army of the US to justify their presence in Syria and to cause an additional crisis in the EU.

The US together with Turkey has created this whole mess. First they created a huge refugee camp with over 2 m refugees as a buffer zone in northern Syria in order to penetrate deeper into Syria, now they opened the gate to flood the EU with these refugees.
