A prototype of a high-temperature superconducting maglev train, dubbed as the "super bullet maglev train" with a maximum speed of 620 kilometers (km) per hour, rolled off production line on Wednesday in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The train is the first of its kind, and was designed and manufactured in China, according to state-run Xinhua News Agency.

The completion of this engineering prototype and its testing tracks marked a "zero to one" moment in the study of high-temperature superconducting maglev, Xinhua said.

The high-temperature superconducting maglev is different from the existing maglevs in the world, which use low-temperature superconducting technology, and enables a firmer ride for the train.

With its all-carbon fiber lightweight body, bullet-shaped nose and the heavy-haul high-temperature superconducting technology, the prototype train has a designed peak speed of 620 km per hour, likely the fastest of any vehicles running on earth, according to the Xinhua report.

Combined with vacuum tube or tunnel technology, the train is expected to bring subversive transformation to rail transit sector, said the report.

This design looks better
This 600km/h train is with more mature technology. Hence more likely to be put in real life in the short future.

The 620km/h train is less mature, but with much more new technologies; it even has the potential to reach 800 or 900km/h speed. But we may need to wait for very long time to see this beast be used in real world.

Beijing and Shanghai, one is in north China and one south China, will become like one city, making many people's dream of living in one and working in another come true.
How fast would a trip be between the two cities with this new train?

They are still too far apart to live in one and commute to the other but obviously they’d be more integrated.

.
wonder if the air in the cars will make everyone sleepy and docile like seems to occur on trains in Japan?
Never noticed such a thing when I was on trains in Shanghai, previously. Of course being indebted to the banksters of Tyrol, Bern, London and the Vatican changes many things for a nation and it's people.

.
THe platypus shape is mainly to deal with air pressure differences when entering tunnels or coming out of it.
