Chinas Ambassador to the U.S., Cui Tiankai, has criticised Japans stance and interpretation of the Second World War during a speech in Washington D.C..
In response, Japan said Cui Tiankais words merely represents his own countrys stance and does not deserve a response.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying has again urged Japan to respect historical facts, and to stop making statements or taking actions that will damage regional stability.
"Only by remembering history and learning from the bitter lesson, can such tragedy be prevented from happening again," Hua said.
"Japans attitude towards history and future will not only influence its own development direction, but will also influence its future with its Asian neighbours. It also concerns peace and stability in northeast Asia."
