China has built a 5G station at 5,000 metres above sea level, capable of delivering crystal-clear footage of Mount Everest via livestream.

China Telecom is filming images of Everest 24/7 and broadcasting them live in 4K HD complete with a 360-degree rotating view.

The images are proving popular online and are being distributed from a 5G broadcast station at an Everest base camp located at a height of 5,000 metres.

Everest itself reaches a staggering 8,848 metres (29,028 feet) above sea level at its peak.

In order to build the sophisticated 5G station, workers had to overcome altitude sickness as well as haul equipment to the area and check the suitability of the location to house the high-tech building.

Liao Hongfeng, spokesman for China Telecom, confirmed that it was the highest 5G station in the world and that they had installed two sets of cameras with one showing the camp itself and the other showing the mountain.

He said the service was "a chance for Chinese people who are staying at home due to the coronavirus to enjoy panoramic views of the mountain's beauty through cutting-edge technology".

At this time of year, Everest is a major magnet for climbers but most routes are currently closed because of coronavirus restrictions on top of already closed routes shut down because of environmental concerns.

It marks also the 60th anniversary of the first ascent of Everest from the North Col, which was carried out by a Chinese mountaineering team in May 1960, seven years after the mountain had been first climbed by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay.

It is the latest publicity for its 5G technology which allowed 200 million Chinese civilians to watch the building of Huoshenshan Hospital in Wuhan – with online viewers praising the sense of community it gave them.

This comes after a stupid conspiracy theory claimed that 5G tech was responsible for coronavirus despite a total lack of evidence.

Idiotic vandals have burned mobile masts, potentially putting lives at risk by stopping emergency services from being able to communicate during the pandemic, because of the completely unfounded theory.

There have been major outbreaks of Covid-19 in countries such as Iran that have no 5G networks.
