What's new

China building world's biggest camera surveillance network

The camera network is nothing
unless it is backed by reliable communication and power infrastructure as well as
a proper and reliable database against which the bio-metric / visual ID is to be matched.

As of now we have none of the above.

All will be done soon what you missed people really monitoring it and sending Police when they see something happening not they have to be told

needed this in Pakistan. 10 years ago.
Yes it should be deployed in every city of Pakistan and backed by well equipped Police which timely responds and also ambulance services. It should be part of CPEC. Much needed step

1900 cameras installed in Islamabad, and the ANPR cameras don't work because the server for the NPR is not operational due to licensing issues and not being connected to MTMIS Pakistan.

Don't blame the police, blame the government for not vetting what they were installing.

Pakistan's technical advisers in public safety need to be shot with sh1tballs!

Furthermore an Islamabad based company pitches CDA to install facial recognition software on the existing server they have located in Zero Point, and CDA refused to pay them the trial fee! These people play with fire like this all the time, dodging bullets until one hits them in the rear end.

Maybe some here are too young or don't remember Shaheed-e-Millat tower and how people warned the CDA that at that time our fire brigade didn't have ladders high enough and that building didn't have sprinkler systems! Well straightforward to 2014 and the building caught fire again, alas this time it was an inside job but still it was a good showcases that we don't learn from our mistakes.

Now lets come to the case of the Mobile Vehicle Scanners:

These scanners were purchased under the false pretext that they could scan and detect explosives inside vehicles especially trucks, which is entirely false. These are large scale walk through detectors that only scan metals, and all vehicles contain "metal".

Costing $3 million each they were an expensive show item, nothing more! Their application was incorrect, these types of scanners are designed for border and ports for controlled searching of Articulated Lorries, not commuter vehicles!

So it's not surprising that they were mothballed after proving ineffective when the military ran some dry runs with vehicles containing explosives:

The scanners were stored at Police Lines before being donated to KP Police
https://www.dawn.com/news/1184548

Again they were donated to KP under the false label that they can detect "Explosives" which is just NOT the case! And every time you pass a check post in KP or Lahore or even Karachi airport don't be surprised if you see this:

a proper and reliable database against which the bio-metric / visual ID is to be matched.

As of now we have none of the above.

From Dawn Article quoting the CPEC Plan
"A full system of monitoring and surveillance will be built in cities from Peshawar to Karachi, with 24 hour video recordings on roads and busy marketplaces for law and order."
https://www.dawn.com/news/1333101

1. Camera Network already being built in Islamabad
2. power infrastructure being built
3. database being compiled using NADRA pictures and license plates from other government databases
4. communication network also being built
"A national fibreoptic backbone will be built for the country not only for internet traffic, but also terrestrial distribution of broadcast TV, which will cooperate with Chinese media in the “dissemination of Chinese culture”."
https://www.dawn.com/news/1333101

more bio-metric and visual ID will be added in as time goes on, and soon it will be able to do what the Chinese system can do; especially if it get the Artificial Intelligence software from china

When will our officials stop playing with lives!?!

The fraud in the hands of ASF needs to be thrown in gutter, it's recognized as failed technology still we using this. As for the camera system yes we have safe city projects but I doubt that we have facial recognition software the kind China is using we need to get that also. And also place camera in good positions many camera under Lahore Safe City and also in Islamabad are placed in pretty bad angles and positions.

@RescueRanger @Path-Finder

all afghans that enter the country need to have tags around their ankles so their movements can be monitored.

I have already posted that CDA weren't willing to buy the license for the FaceRec software because they are idiots, despite Islamabad having the Infa-red scanner already installed on Islamabad Super Highway

What a bunch of twats. Security is compromised from within I hope interior is fixed like COAS told Senate. Personally Britain was the first nation to go cctv mad 40 years ago and retain the beat cameras for it as well.

It will improve the public security drastically. As AI involved in this field the efficiency is now incredible.

And the surveillance drones can also provide variable benefits to public securities.

China is strong in both fields and hope Pakistan can build this infrastructures/system.

Welcome to modern China.
