UNITED NATIONS: China has blocked India's move in the UN demanding action against Pakistan over release of Mumbai attack mastermind and LeT commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi in violation of a resolution of the world body as it contended that India provided insufficient information.

As the UN sanctions committee met here at India's request, a clarification was to be sought from Pakistan over Lakhvi's release in the 26/11 trial but the Chinese representatives blocked the move on grounds that India did not provide sufficient information, official sources said.

In a letter to the current chair of the UN sanctions committee Jim McLay, India's permanent representative to the UN Asoke Mukherjee last month had said Lakhvi's release by a Pakistani court was in violation of the 1267 UN resolution dealing with designated entities and individuals.

The sanctions measures apply to designated individuals and entities associated with terror groups including al-Qaeda and LeT, wherever located.

The sanctions' committee has five permanent and 10 non-permanent UN member states in it.

The release of Lakhvi had also raised concerns in the US, UK, Russia, France and Germany with Washington calling for him to be re-arrested.

Lakhvi and six others — Abdul Wajid, Mazhar Iqbal, Hamad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jameel Riaz, Jamil Ahmed and Younis Anjum — have been charged with planning and executing the Mumbai attack in November, 2008 that left 166 people dead.

Lakhvi, 55, a close relative of LeT founder and Jamaat—Ud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, was arrested in December 2008 and was indicted along with the six others on November 25, 2009 in connection with the 26/11 attack case. The trial has been underway since 2009.

A Pakistani court had on April 9 set free Lakhvi, a development which India said "eroded" the value of assurances repeatedly conveyed to it by Pakistan on cross—border terrorism.

This is bullsh!t. How can a weak, tiny and fragile state like China can block move by a hyper super vedic power like India. It is time India teaches China a military lesson just like 1962 along with raising this issue with other of her partners and hyper super powers like BD, Bhutan and Nepal.

We need Chinese trade and investment.. Rest we are capable.

Yes, how can it?

On topic, China is actually pushing India to western bloc with its action. Lets see how things progress in the next decade.

nothing new.. they have done it before.

They don't want pakistani to end their terrorist producing factory.

For the past 2-3 weeks most of your post are about IA Myanmar operation . Looks like you are having more pain in your @ss than the terrorists themselves because of the Myanmar operation .

Ontopic: All the best in releasing the UN designated terrorists (good terrorists)

Remember when Russia blocks all moves in UN against Kashmir ?

NEW DELHI: China has blocked India's move in the UN for action against Pakistan for the release of 26/11 mastermind Zaki Ur Rehman Lakhvi from jail last month.

The UN Sanctions Committee, which met at India's request, was to seek a clarification from Pakistan on Lakhvi's release in the 26/11 trial but China blocked the move on grounds that India did not provide sufficient information, sources said.

India approached the UN last month against Lakhvi's release in April from a jail in Rawalpindi. The Islamabad High Court had declared his detention illegal and ordered his release.

Lakhvi, 55, faces trial, along with six others, over the attack in 2008 in Mumbai, in which 166 people were killed. The cases have made virtually no progress in more than five years, paving the way for his release on April 9.

India's permanent representative to the UN, Asoke Mukherjee, wrote to the UN's Sanctions' Committee terming Lakhvi's release a violation of a UN resolution on terrorist organisations and groups, including the al Qaeda and the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), wherever located.

The sanctions committee includes China as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Lakhvi's release was viewed with concern in US, Russia, France and Germany. Washington has demanded his re-arrest.
Lakhvi, a close relative of LeT founder and Jamaat-Ud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, was arrested in December 2008 and was indicted a year later for his role in one of India's deadliest terror attacks.

Read all those links. More cheer leading by Indian media than any proof that this operation was real and was not a moral boosting drama .

Just shows that the world has had enough of two-faced indian strategy.

On one hand they ask the UN to discuss the bail of Lakhvi and on the other hand they accept the bail plea of Swami.

From now on, Indian can take everything to UN, good luck with that, ;-)

Maybe we have learnt the trick from you where for moral boosting your army have claimed to kill 2345.56 terrorists on operation Burp-e-Burp

And they are crying for so called terrorism in Xingijiang.

Actually this would have been a better chance for Chinese to increase their relation with India .26/11 after all is an emotional issue of every Indian and GoI.
Now on we will take counter strategy which they can see as our growing alignment with West.
These block is not a big issue .We have several methods to neutralize 26/11 culripts but now we wont do that.

But China is giving more reason and justification of our relation with West.

The results of that operation are enough to prove Pak army's claims. Bharatis due to their pain in their rear side with success of this operation can give it any name. Calling name won't make it a drama like Myanmar drama produced and directed by dramaybaaz Indian military.

Even neutral sources have confirmed oursuccess.
