Buddy, no one shares Pakistan's concerns (aside from China to a limited extent).

Our undergraduate friend here thinks we're (Indians/Chinese) stealing American jobs. From what I've seen (in grad school), an overwhelming majority of post-grad students in applied and basic sciences are foreign nationals, notably Chinese and Indian, as the article rightly mentions.

You're right about American universities, there's a reason the states is the #1 destination for intl' students. However, you need to realize that more and more kids in the states aren't interested in pursuing degrees in science or mathematics.

Now is this something you need to be concerned about? Yes and no.

1. Yes, because something's obviously wrong if kids aren't motivated enough to take up serious degrees in college.

2. No, because one the primary reasons for America success is because of its ability to attract and absorb talent from around the world. A lot of effort has been put into building and promoting institutions/mechanisms to facilitate the same.

For example:

Like I said, there's a reason they want to retain students in these fields.

With STEM jobs being outsourced in massive numbers, I am not sure we are looking to these jobs as breadwinners. My point is not to take away any job that an American has qualified for. There is fraud and abuse in that system. That's my point.

That had app which showed data of each immigrant group and the employment in the type of industry.

When it came to India most of them part of the IT industry.

When it came to China ,most of the jobs occupied were into restaurants business,signifying most of the Chinese who come to US for education go back to China ,unlike previous generation of immigrants.

So the statement Chinese are stealing/taking over American jobs seems not so convincing to me

So the statement Chinese are stealing/taking over American jobs seems hyped or baseless.

This is actually an increasing trend. Chinese people (at least most overseas Chinese) now view China as the true land of opportunity and America is just a place to get an education.

By all accounts things like social mobility is higher and there is a much better chance that you can truly build a business or a legacy that you can pass to your kids in China.
