Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met in Beijing on Wednesday with visiting Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, saying that the two countries' bilateral relationship faces an important opportunity for development.

"Since China and Bangladesh are both developing countries, both of us are committed to stepping up development and improving living standards," said Xi, adding it is important for China to reinforce and develop its cooperation with Bangladesh.

China is ready to work with Bangladesh to boost their ties to a new high, he said.

China highly appreciates Bangladesh's support on issues related to Taiwan, Tibet and other issues concerning China's core interests, Xi said.

The two countries forged diplomatic ties 36 years ago. In March 2010, Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited China. The two countries issued a joint statement at that time, which stated that they would build a "closer comprehensive partnership of cooperation."

"China will continue to support Bangladesh in safeguarding its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as assist in its efforts to ensure national stability and social development," Xi said.

Moni expressed gratitude for China's long-standing support and assistance in Bangladesh's development, saying Bangladesh will continue to support China in return.

Bangladesh highly values its relationship with China and will endeavor to enhance bilateral cooperation in all areas, she said.

Statistics show that two-way trade volume between the countries exceeded 7 billion U.S. dollars last year.

Moni also met with her counterpart Yang Jiechi on Wednesday.

The China-Bangladesh relationship has boasted comprehensive development, highlighted by frequent high-level exchanges, as well as progress in major cooperative projects and economic and trade contacts, Yang said.

Moni kicked off her eight-day visit on June 15 and is scheduled to conclude her trip Wednesday evening.

Xi Jinping is actually the next leader of China. I'm glad he's taking the time to foster closer relations with our friends in Bangladesh.

I'd eye for those J-10s and J-11s. Maybe even the J-20 in the future :azn:

This is one good thing I can see our FM is doing.

HOw about the idea of China-BD-PK-Myanmar defence pact like NATO. Attack on one country means attack on every country with nuclear umbrella.

I definitely think China needs to have a mutual defence pact with both Pakistan and Bangladesh one day.

But we aren't strong enough right now. Hopefully we will reach our desired level of strength sooner rather than later, so will be capable enough in the future.

If so then I welcome it but I personally don't buy it. Al try to balance something that already failed. China isn't going to help a country that already being digested by dada Bharat.

That could easily happen by 2020 as China should be the largest economy in the world by then. It should also have several aircraft carriers by then and major weapons like J-20 will have been deployed in numbers.

I would like to take this a step further and propose a Muslim-Chinese alliance to be the dominant economic/military block in the world from 2030 onwards. Just Imagine China linking up with countries like Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Malaysia and Indonesia. The mind boggles at it's potential strength.

That is inevitable anyway. :azn: There is no other part of the world more important to China than the Muslim world, in terms of strategic location, resources, future growth potential, and diplomatic alignment.

Pakistan and Bangladesh are the perfect gateway, for us to one day make a major alignment with the Muslim world.

I believe Western analysts like to refer to this as the "Sino-Islamic connection" (Clash of civilizations). They hype it up as some sort of threat, but for the developing world, it is an enormous opportunity.
