BEIJING: China approved subway projects in three cities including Beijing, Tianjian and Shenzhen worth a total 464.77 billion yuan ($73.04 billion), the country's top economic planner said on its website.

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said on its website that it had approved the second construction phase of a subway system in Beijing, with an investment value of 212.28 billion yuan. It is expected to be finished by 2021.

It also gave the go-ahead for a subway plan worth 179.43 billion yuan in Tianjin. It is due for completion in 2020.

The third construction phase of a subway system in Shenzhen also won approval. It is planned to be completed by 2020, with an investment value of 73.06 billion yuan.

Beijing has approved billions of dollars in infrastructure projects in recent months to stave off a sharper economic slowdown. The government has been particularly keen on projects in the less-developed western part of the country.

Lack of investments limit metro construction.
Especially in Central China and Western China's big cities, urban transport is a mass.

By now China's metro network is 2.4 times that of USA, 3.8 times that of Japan or Korea, and tops the world.

Again given mass urbanization trend, China while expanding the exiting 22 metro cities, will roll out to others so altogether total 45 major cities will be covered by 2020.

Check with these institutions, they might offer assistance:
  • Directly with the industrial sector, i.e. CRRC. They work with Exim Bank which provides loan assistance
  • Some SWF's, see link below. China is re-purposing FX reserves into funds that have more flexibility in investment.
  • AIIB, in which India is a founding member. This bank focus on infrastructure, incl. metro/subway.
  • Other government-administered funds e.g. Silk Road Fund.

Replacing Forex Reserves: Silent Rise of Sovereign Welfare Funds

very impressive .. Hope we will also achieve in our near future ... :)

It looks like Beijing will one day end up with a subway network of 40 lines.

Ditto many other cities. :D
Traffic jams everywhere.
China has too many big cities, more than 100 cities with population more than 1 million !!!
According to Europa's metro design, some city has a metro system when the population is less than one million.

Tomorrow I'll go to Hunan Province for national holiday.
Changsha only has one metro line so far, painful!:(

Greater_China_Rapid_Transit.png

China's infrastructure projects are so impressive. India should learn design and execution from them. I am so awestruck at how fantastic (form and function) the Maglev train and stations are !

One thing I did not understand: both China and India are heavily populated countries with dense city commutes. Why then are the Shanghai subways not as stuffed to the gills as the Mumbai subway trains are? Or may be Shanghai is not as dense as Mumbai?

More than 50 cities to get Metro along with many other Mono rail and lighj rail projects in many other cities :)

Check this out .. Data yoy posted is old one i guess.

Metro rail[edit]
There are currently 8 operational metro systems in India.

Metro rail lines in India are composed of both standard gauge and broad gauge. Projects like the Delhi Metro used broad gauge for their earliest lines but most new projects in India are on standard gauge as rolling stock imported from Europe is on Standard Gauge. One exception is the Ahmedabad Metro, which will use Broad gauge, as there is more space available inside the coach.[10]

Shanghai has 20 million people, but in 6300+ km2.
The total length of Shanghai Metro is nearly 600km.
The interval of trains can be less than 3 minutes.

@Shotgunner51 is from Shanghai, he can explain more.

@Shotgunner51 I always avoid taking metro during busy hours in Shanghai.
But I enjoy having some drink sitting inside the station and watching people passing by.:-)

Awesome and if they are able to keep up with the timelines, that would be another feather in cap.

Having said that, i guess with the number of metro systems in beijing, one would need to carry a color palette to identify the color of route and train :P
