China annouced new fastest supercomputer finished

The US has 3 supercomputers in development that will surpass 100 petaflops.

Summit and Sierra are set to arrive in 2017-18 with peak performance between 100-300 petaflops.

Aurora will arrive in 2018 at a peak performance of 180 petaflops.

President Obama has also signed a directive for our first exaflop supercomputer by the early 2020's.
Even so,USA is not sure if the fastest supercomputer will be in usa or in china in 2020…
China is progressing so fast that USA now is in real trouble…

.
If this supercomputer is above 100 petaflops and its using only Chinese chips, then this is a complete embarrassment for the US after it banned selling American chips to stop the progress of Chinese supercomputers.

China could even export supercomputers using Chinese chips to developing countries.

By 2017, China too will have multiple supercomputers above 100 petaflops and before 2020 will most likely have an exaflop supercomputer.

This was China's first petaflop supercomputer with the indigenous CPU units back in 2011, only 3 years later than the first US petaflop supercomputer.

In 5 years later, China's indigenous processor speed has increased by 100 times. This wasn't initially expected for the US.

I think US still has the edge over China in terms of super computer technologies, their problem is more about the budget. China is catching up fast, that is for sure.

The US is still more ahead in the processor, but China has the more advanced interconnect and layout design.

That's why the US has so much trouble to beat Tianhe-2 despite having the advantage in the processor.

Yes, it surprised me too. Tianhe-2 has been on the top for more than two years, but the US has not been able to topple it. I thought it has to do with their financial resource and/or budgeting process. You think China has advantages on architecture of the super computer?

I think we have discussed this before.

Consider that the Tianhe-2 is much more powerful than the rest of the supercomputers in the current top500 list, yet it is still one of the most environmental friendly supercomputers.

The fact that China can compete with the US in the supercomputer race is a great achievement in itself.

People have to remember that China is a developing country yet it is able to go head to head with the US who is a technology superpower.

China will only improve from here as it advances in technology and gains more experience.

The aerospace industry is the domain where China and the US have the biggest gap.

If this new super computer dose use Chinese processors SW-5 as some source claimed, it is indeed a monumental achievement for China. The significance of indigenous CPU for the super computer can not be overstated, and it is way more important than the ranking in the Top 500 list.

China's architecture design is superior, so it will produce the superior supercomputer even with the slightly inferior chips.

Another milestone, what an achievement

I tried, but there in no information in English sources. And I am not proficient enough in Chinese to search as yet.

Told you before, only a small body of Chinese scientific and technological works are published in English, which plays a tiny tiny role in the conduct of life in China。

Don't worry though, this will get covered in overseas media sooner or later。
