China and The Art of (losing) War

Are you telling us all Chinese did not fight for others?
It is different and can't be compare. The "hanjian" collaborationists were fighting for Japan for their own self-interest and they are a small portion of the national agenda which was to kick out all foreigner invaders. It is India "national policy" to aid the British empire colonial expansion. Historically, we are a country that despise foreign power intermingling in our domestic affair. It is why we are building the great wall to begin with.

right.. sun tzu was just a book writer ... a bit harsh to lay the blame of china's lost wars entirely on him.

before mao, mao and after mao .. nobody forced chinese to follow what sun tzu wrote .. they always had a choice to treat sun tzu as just a fancy story writer ..

the good thing going is that they will continue with their follies. :omghaha:

So many inaccuracies in the article.

Th Manchu did not topple Ming Dynasty. The last emperor hanged himself when the rebellions invaded Beijing, not Manchu. Manchu took over from the peasant rebellions.

Also how did the author reach conclusion that for past 1500 years, foreigners ruled China more than Chinese themselves?

I would say foreigners probably ruled Britain more than original Britons in their entire history, Roman invasion, the massacre of druids, their original religion, the Normandy and consequently French conquering the upper society of Britain, etc, etc.

In world history, some native people were even wiped off the face of earth. Chinese still maintain their identity since dawn of civilization. To cite barbaric invasions in history and then apply to modern politics is stupid and meaningless.

Globalpost continues to be garbage newspaper.

Terrible propaganda piece from the globalpost, a notorious tabloid that is about as reputable as the dailymail. The author couldn't even establish how China's foreign policy follows Sun Tzu, he just pulled it out of his arse in the hopes that the western orientalist mindset would plug in the gaps and make the connection for him. The reason China has an 'assertive' foreign policy is because it's surrounded on its periphery by an anarchic bunch of monkey states who don't know how to respect China's territorial integrity, much less behave, and these monkey states are being emboldened by the world mafia boss, the USA.

The Wind (China) and the Sun (India)

The Wind and the Sun were disputing which was the stronger. Suddenly they saw a traveller coming down the road, and the Sun said: "I see a way to decide our dispute. Whichever of us can cause that traveller to take off his cloak shall be regarded as the stronger. You begin." So the Sun retired behind a cloud, and the Wind began to blow as hard as it could upon the traveller. But the harder he blew the more closely did the traveller wrap his cloak round him, till at last the Wind had to give up in despair. Then the Sun came out and shone in all his glory upon the
traveller, who soon found it too hot to walk with his cloak on.

Instead of 3idiot you should have chosen 1 idiot

Quote from the original article:

For the last 1,500 years, the Chinese have been more under foreign rule than Chinese rule.

And 1000 years of indian slavery to Muslims :D

how funny, those primitive and uncivilized Indian are talking about foreign rules, cheap human life and rape in massive scale, :D

seriously, their average 81 IQ is the bottomless gold mine of funny jokes.

I think it is the only human race that is self-loathing, subjective, intellectually handicapped, physically weak, mentally illusive and inbreeded in this world

This quote just eliminated this article and the publisher as serious journalism. You can not make up things like China has been under more foreign rule for1500 years than Chinese rule.

dude ... you said are not from china.

your ignorance and inability to comprehend India is well demonstrated on this forum.

isn't it time you step down from you high pedestral, and look at the facts before you start preaching your fancy dreams as gospel of truth to others ?

Coming back to topic I would really like to know some specific events where US has actually deferred to its neighbours? Can someone please expand on this?

I can give a few brief examples --

1.) Foremost is Saudi Arabia's decision to not allow U.S troops on its soil , which incredible as it is , the US accepted without question.

2) Another example would be the military bases on Philippines , referred in the article. Again the US acquiesced despite the fact that they could easily throw their weight around.

Of course , the downside is the U.S administration has its satellite states ( there are several) , under its de-facto thumb so all these displays are for public sentimental consumption --"we respect you and your sovereignty " -is the message they wish to deliver to the public.

Behind the scenes, they probably have a hundred other methods of surveillance , covert diplomatic leverages to eventually get their objectives accomplish but gotta hand it to them. At the diplomatic level ( where it really matters ) they are the worlds leading experts of image projection.

On the contrary , China has in the last couple of years made several diplomatic blunders which result in it viewed more as an aggressive entity by several countries. While the west have never really been a friend , China managed to alienate even the carefully neutral Asian countries like India and increase the apprehensions of several others like Japan and the Philippines , those of whom where finally reconciling themselves to the idea of a multi-polar world with China , Russia , U.S as many leading powers .

In short China literally upset a very well functioning balance to tilt the diplomatic scales towards the U.S--In the process shooting themselves in the foot, albeit accidentally.
