China and Pakistan Begin Biannual Air Exercise Shaheen 2

However, an APP report last week stated Chengdu F-7PG and Mirage aircraft had traveled to China to participate in Shaheen 2.

Hopefully Chinese jets will shoot down these F-7/Mirage, then publish it in newspaper, we will be thrilled. :china:

Pakistan, though, has some clear requirements, but is hampered in being unable to acquire them due to lack of finances.

“The main items that Pakistan is interested in are combat ships and warplanes, notably the fifth-generation Chinese fighter, the J-20, but we are talking serious money, here, and at the moment Pakistan cannot afford to enter into a major commitment, and will have to keep the [US-supplied] F-16s flying for a long time yet,” Cloughley said.

Same finances issues. J-31 will be cancelled.

Here's an interesting bit

"However, “The meeting is welcome for Pakistan, of course,” he said, “as it maintains and enhances the cordial relations that exist between the countries, and no doubt there were discussions on provision of equipment and systems that neither side is going to divulge.”

Nevertheless, Cloughley believes “there are aspects of materiel cooperation — mainly in ammunition and electronics — that will continue to prosper.”

For Pakistan therefore, Cloughley thinks the talks, and wider Sino-Pakistani relationship, are of critical importance.

“The defense link is a most important one for Pakistan, and it can be expected that Islamabad will work hard to keep it smooth and worthwhile for both parties,” he said.

I can't believe no one else picked up on this from the article.

Our pilots training with our best ally is more important than the platform trained on.

The su-30 is a great platform, but with huge size comes great RCS.
You're underestimating our platforms and tactics.

There is a vivid difference between addressing the reality and underestimating one self.

This RCS theory might be a way to convince a person walking on the street. But technically there is much more to it. The super hornet is twice as big as the F-16s. Yet its RCS is lesser. Now where did the "huge RCS' theory go?
There are several factors which govern the RCS and detection mechanism. The airframe design, material, weapon design etc do their part. Even a poorly designed canopy of F-22 raptor can find it a spot on the scope.

As for MKI. No one really knows about its RCS value in radio silence. And todays airbattles are fought with radars off. That is why guided weapons were developed in the first place.

Just my 2 cents.

Agreed, RCS is classified even for our thunders.

The other stuff you nailed it.

Yet to see an F 15 to be shot down in 3 decades and 10 wars.

ISLAMABAD - Air operations are being conducted to validate joint air power employment concepts in the ongoing joint air exercise 'Shaheen-II', between the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and Chinese Air Force (PLAAF).

The exercise involves complex air operations for mutual learning as well as improving the coordination of both the air forces, said a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Press release issued here on Sunday.

The exercise 'Shaheen-II' is providing an opportunity to combat crew of both the air forces to acquaint themselves with applied tactics of air power in near real scenario.

It is pertinent to mention that the first exercise of this series 'Shaheen-I' took place in March 2011 in Pakistan at an operational air base of PAF.

The PAF conducts such exercises on regular intervals both inland and abroad. It has been participating in a number of international air exercises with some of the best air forces of the world, including the United States Air Force (USAF), Italian Air Force, Turkish Air Force (TuAF), Royal Saudi Air Force, Jordanian Air Force and those of other allied countries.

PAF joint air exercise with PLAAF ‘Shaheen-II’ culminates

September 23, 2013

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) contingent comprising combat Pilots and ground technical crew landed back at an operational Air Base on Monday after successful culmination of the joint Air Exercise “Shaheen-II”. Earlier, the closing ceremony was hosted by Lt Gen Zheng Qun Liang, Deputy Commander PLA Air Force. It was attended by Air Marshal Sohail Aman, Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Operations) and a team of high ranking PAF officials. According to PAF press release here, the exercise involved complex Air Operations for mutual learning as well as improving the coordination and interoperability of both Air Forces.

During the exercise, combat aircraft from PAF and PLAAF conducted joint operations to validate air warfare concepts in the contemporary operational and tactical environments.

Experiences gained during the exercise would contribute towards enhancement of operational capabilities and inter-operability of both the Air Forces.

Shaheen-II commenced on 3rd September, 2013 with the deployment of PAF fighter aircraft and personnel in China.

It was for the first time in the history that a foreign Air Force conducted a joint exercise with PLAAF on Chinese soil and airspace.

This in itself is reflective of the strong bond of friendship between China and Pakistan.
