India has been a leading proponent of the disarmament argument. It has said that the idea of some countries having nuclear weapons while others don't will not work. Although it is in competition with China, and although it exploded a nuclear weapon, it still avoided deploying them. No country has sacrificed more to rid the world of WMD. After it realised that all of this was a forlorn hope, it deployed nuclear weapons and became a WMD state.

Pakistan's view has always been that this is a bi-lateral issue. If the Indians sign, they will sign.Both countries, in different ways, have been forced into becoming WMD states.

The west have always used the NPT treaty as a stick to beat the Arab/ muslim countries with. It is a tool they use to help Israel establish nuclear monopoly over the Arab/ muslim countries. The Arabs, even by their low standards, have shown the utmost cowardice by signing the NPT. The 'bad' people in the Arab world; Gadaffi, Saddam Husain and the Sudan, are people who say they will not sign the NPT unless the Israelis do. 'Evil' Iran wants a nuclear free middle-east, they will sign it tomorrow if Israel does.

Had the west agreed to India's request and disarmed, we would be living in a nuclear weapons free worl now. The reason we don't is entirely due to them.

Israel having or not having nukes , isn't the catalyst for Iranian Nuclear Ambitions . Its the U.S 's persistent pressurizing of Iran for its repressive regime , and anti-west inclinations . Iranian thinking is that IF North Korea --who despite having the worst kind of a dictatorship ,can openly "challenge" the U.S with rhetoric and actions ( against SK ships etc ) and still not be turned into another Iraq purely by the virtue of having nukes ...then a similar kind of a security blanket is necessary to prevent any U.S attempt at regime-change in Iran.

The only question is after getting the bomb would they be as responsible as Israel has been or would they translate rhetoric of "wiping Israel off the map" into planned battle action with a nuke ?

In that case , Israel 's usage of the "Samson Doctrine" will result in the middle East going up in Ashes and the blame would be squarely on Iranian shoulders ( at least if one disregards the chain occurrences i.e U.S + NATO( bomb) --> Soviet Union --> China---> India ---> Pakistan---> Israel ---> every bits and pieces banana state )
