China Adds $8 Billion to Funding for Railway Project ML-1

The ML-1 line initially had a $3.7B investment plan which later increased to $5.5B. Now, this $8B is extra. Even for a greenfield project, including the link to Kashgar you don't need $13.5B.

$5.5b was from China and $2.5b from ADB. Now China want to complete project quickly and not wait for ADB. Pakistan offered China to include ML-2 in CPEC but they refused. ML-1 cater to 70% of rail traffic in Pakistan. In fact it cover pretty much all major Pakistan urban centres, Karachi, Hydrabad, Multan, Faislabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Pindi and Peshawar.

Now Pakistan is looking for investment on BOT basis to upgrade ML-2 and lay new railway tracks. Linking Gwadar and Gilgit with railways looks like 2030 project.

This is the official OBOR.

This isn't the updated map. There is nothing in Pakistan :rofl: and they are spending over $ 75 billion inside Pakistan to build roads and highways connecting the globe. Did some Indian friend of mine post this map due to built-in hatred against the Pakistanis? Apparently, who doesn't want to join the project (India) has a huge chunk going from Calcutta outwards. Go figure :enjoy:

But that is the original OBOR. CPEC is a part of OBOR only due to politics. As an economic belt, it is not.

As far as the Chinese are concerned, they will have an oil pipeline from the Middle East to China. Everything else in OBOR is merely dependent on Pakistani economy itself, and nothing else.

There's nothing happening on that front. In fact it is China which is putting pressure on India to join OBOR.

Anyway, BCIM is significantly better in terms of connectivity compared to CPEC. It connects India and China through the entirety of ASEAN. That's over 3 billion people. And BCIM goes through important nodal points for both India and China. Even then India is not concerned as much because India has better connectivity to ASEAN by sea.

In CPEC, it's just Pakistan, really, and no one else. Xinjiang's population is too insignificant, so the entirety of CPEC is dependent on Pakistan and Pakistan only. Afghanistan has a bigger population than Xinjiang. It is your neighbour Iran which has all the advantages.

Anyway, this is from CCTV.

BCIM, CPEC etc are just branches of OBOR, not the main project itself.

As it stands today, only rich countries or very small countries should tie up with OBOR. Any medium sized country like Pakistan or even a large country like India that connects to China will get swallowed by imports from China.

India doesn't need OBOR. As far as we are concerned, we are the Middle Kingdom, not China. India doesn't have China's connectivity problem. India has direct access to 4 oceans, China has access to only one.

hopefully with the loan pakistan can buy western trains instead. we all know what happened last time when pakistan bought chinese trains lol
mods again with the pathetic trolling.

this guy deserves a life time ban honestly. he is such a poor troll

Ok, so the Chinese were crazy to put $60 billion into a country for "political reasons". Do you read the crap you write before pressing on the "Post Reply" button? If you continue to write these illogical bad stories filled with personal hate, one of these days, when you press on the "Post Reply" button, a hand will come out of your monitor and will slap your face. The computer will tell you its shutting down because it can't take so much bias and nonsense! When you write something about serious topics, always remember that someone will read it. Sadly, it was me this time. What a waste of time!

 It appears your mental awareness is way too low for these kinds of discussions.

Read this, you will get to know why the Chinese are investing.

Anyway, we are doing the same railway upgrades in India. For example, the Mysore-Chennai line will be upgraded to 160Km/hr as well. The distance is 500Km.
http://www.newindianexpress.com/cit...i-bangalore-in-less-than-3-hours-1532471.html
Semi-high speed train between Chennai and Bengaluru can reduce the travel time between two cities to less than 3 hours and would need an investment of Rs 3200 crore to convert the existing tracks to run trains at 160 kmph, according to a feasibility study report submitted by Chinese company. The report pegs the cost at Rs 4350 crore for upgrading the entire section between Chennai and Mysore...

That's less than $700M in total. At 3 times the distance, it shouldn't cost more than $2.5B.

But the Chinese are making you pay $13.5B for this line. Why do you think I asked if your tracks are made of gold?

Good luck with your CPEC.
