ISLAMABAD, May 21 (APP): The Chinese government has acceded to Pakistan’s request to take over the operations at Gawadar Port as soon as the term of agreement with the incumbent Singapore Port Authority expires. This was stated by Federal Minister for Defence, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar after completing his visit to China, said a press release.
China is an all-weather friend and the closest ally of Pakistan, and it can be judged from the fact that in which ever sectors Pakistan requested assistance during PM’s recent visit to China, they immediately agreed with Pakistan, he said.
Chaudhry Mukhtar said that during their meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jia Bao, he, being the Defence Minister of Pakistan, raised and discussed some important strategic and economic issues.
He said, “Pakistan considers that peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan and the whole region. Pakistan supports a stable government in Kabul which shall be Afghan owned”.

He said Pakistan requested for frigates of 4400 tons on credit basis and also asked the Chinese government to train Pakistani personnel on submarines.
The Minister further stated,”We are grateful to the Chinese government for constructing Gwader Port. However, we will be more grateful to the Chinese government if a naval base is being constructed at the site of Gwader for Pakistan”.
Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani told his Chinese counterpart that their programme of JF-17 Thunder Aircraft was going on successfully, but it would be a pleasure “for us if the PLA (Peoples Liberation Army) will induct the aircraft in their air fleet. This will give us a lot of publicity to our aircraft and we will be able to sell a larger quantity of the aircraft to bring down the cost.
The Chinese government subscribed to our request to equip our Air Force with FC-20 Aircraft”.
The Chinese Premier was pleased to discuss that his government would help us in repairing Attaabad Lake and KKH road, once the clarification regarding these projects are being received to the Chinese government, he added.
He said,”We agreed on the point that stability had to be achieved in the region by the joint efforts of both Pakistan and China and by defeating the terrorists in the region.
“At this point Pakistan asked China that a message may be conveyed to the US government that Pakistan’s sovereignty should be respected. The Chinese government assured that they would help us to remove all the bottlenecks coming in the way of our prosperity”.

Well dur lanat on Pakistan for not being able to manage it's own Naval port, handicap log... Now I understand the need for capital to be in place to conduct regional and international operations from Gwadar which Pakistan clearly lacks, and in this sense this decision to give Chinese responsibility to manage operations in Gwadar is perhaps pragmatic and sensible...Nonetheless, handicap *******...

If bhagarat Pakistani awam payed taxes and Pakistani Govnt. was efficient Pakistan could have built the Port...Are Pakistani people's hands broken that they cannot build a port? As for engineering and capital required there are Universities and Institutions and Companies that can contribute to design plans and engineering and construction phase, for capital needs, heavily tax people....

This trend of outsourcing sacred National responsibilities is a disgraceful one...To think future Pakistani children will know one of the country's finest naval ports Gwadar wasn't built by Pakistani hands nor money...

Calm down, to understand what it means.

Great move by Pakistan a long time coming if you ask me. China rightly deserves to run the port seeing as they invested the money for its construction. It will benefit both China and Pakistan in the long run. I know of no country on the face of this earth that at some point has not received some kind of financial investment form another country or company. There is no shame in accepting the help of a friend.:china:

To be without Honor and Dignity is shameful but it is sinful to be full of pride and arrogance. The middle path is always closer to Allah (SWT)

clearly you don't see the whole picture. i would say it's pretty good arrangement.

We need china attend as much as possible in our economic development. Economic partnership with China might be the best part for us. I am also hope China can copy their management of Industrial Park into Pakistan. No time should be wasted from NOW. India's already ahead of us.

Ya.. Pakistan has already almost handed over the port to China and now by asking them to manage it they are making sure India does not attacks it .. because it will be an attack on Chinese..Well Played Pakistan .. you may have sold some dignity but gained strategically

Should have gotten a decent education..........learn geography and economics...... before it was managed by a singaporean company who did a crappy job......hence the chinese.

It will take atleast 100 years when mistrust will disappear and specially when Kashmir issue would resolve. Both Pak and India afraid to come face to face on dialogue tabel.

On giving port to China is not question of national integrity. Its a business, all over the world countries lease their ports to other trusted friendly companies. So, don't worry.

On the other hand, Balochistan Chief Minister Nawaz Aslam Raisani has rejected the decision of handing over the Gwadar Port to China because the federal government did not take the provincial government into confidence. He said that Balochistan government has ability to handle the port.

Wow wow bravo.

.
How long will the Chinese manage the Port? What is the timeline or deadline of this plan? Eventually Port operations should be shifted over to a joint state enterprise company subsidized by Government and private share holders to manage the Port...

Gwadar, whether over-hyped or not, has been one of the peaches in the eyes of Pakistanis for about a decade. So much 'promise' yet so little 'delivery'.
I thought Singapore Port Authority (SPA) was one of the most competent in the world. Hard to believe they could not manage a sleepy port. Okay, I know too little about running a port.

However, I think it is important to note the timing of this announcement. Today's Dawn.com says:
Pakistan wants China to build it a naval base | Pakistan | DAWN.COM

that Pakistan wants China to build a 'naval base' in Gwadar.
This was always some kind of 'rumor' for past decade but now official.

I am almost certain that the OBL raid and the subsequent planned humiliation of 'Pakistan' by the Obama administration has finally pushed Pakistan much more firmly to the 'Chinese Camp'. This is not a trivial matter: For decades Pakistanis planners have been suspicious of American motives and American-Indian alliance but they also knew that it is the American-led West which helps the Pakistani economy most. Things changed after the OBL raid. Even the most liberal Pakistanis are now extremely wary of Americans. Shame on Leone Panetta, above all. Rumsfeld video I posted came too late. Americans had already pi$$ed off Pakistan as a 'country'. Too much Hollywood and too much 2012 campaign stuff on American behalf.
