China: 30, India: 0, thanks to bureaucracy: Narayana Murthy

Democracy is the root cause of all our problems its the most slow, ineffective and worst form of government only developed countries can afford to have such kind of system

New Delhi:
Infosys co-founder and chairman emeritus N.R. Narayana Murthy has criticized the government’s slow decision making, saying the country’s progress has been hit by bureaucracy.

"I keep meeting corporate leaders globally. Earlier, if China was mentioned three times, India was mentioned once. Now, if China is mentioned 30 times, India is not even mentioned. That tells the story. We have cut our own legs off by our inaction and our policies,” he said in an interview with NDTV Profit on Thursday.

Mr. Murthy said quick decision-making is the need of the hour and “has nothing to do with Parliament, opposition, coalition or the global downturn”.

The Infosys co-founder referred to the problems of the IT sector, saying suggestions he had made to the government over a year ago had seen little action.

“I gave a list of suggestions to Pranab Mukherjee (the then finance minister) 14 months ago, met the Prime Minister twice, but nothing happened,” he said, adding, “(I) can’t understand when an IT industry contributes 25 per cent to exports, how its problems are not seen as urgent or how its problems are not solved by 5 pm this evening.”

The Prime Minister should urge bureaucrats and ministers to take quick decisions, "and there is a need to act like P.V. Narasimha Rao did in 1991" (when he took over as the country’s prime minister).

Mr. Murthy, who knows Mr Singh personally and has vouched for his honesty, said he is in the current situation because of “a set of circumstances”.

“I sympathize with him… that does not mean progress cannot take place with legislation,” he said.
On software exports, he said the government should ensure growth is not curtailed by unnecessary tax clauses.

“While we sympathize with the UPA government on issues that have immobilized it because of what has happened in Parliament, there are many areas that depend purely on how quickly bureaucrats can take decisions. The PM has appointed another committee. I don’t think you need more committees. While I have tremendous respect for Mr. Singh, we must create an urgency in our bureaucratic decision-making.”

Narayan Moorty is a pure businessman , in Bangalore Electronics city where infosys is based is a 44 acre plot given by govt of Karnataka in 1991 for meager sum of 1Lakh. Today same Narayan Moorty is subletting to other Companies plots within his campus for Carores. Read notes from Chetan Bhagat, if he is so keen on China why does he not shift entire Infosys to Shanghai where they already have a presence. Reason Tax evasions..... Check Balance sheet and Corporate Tax discounts given by Govt of India.

Narayan Moortys Infosys has been indited in atleat 3 proves H1B Visa Scams.Apart from which he has been proven to pay 1/7th the hourly rate to Poor Indians working for him then the prevalent market rates.

Few Days back there was a comment Infosys not increasing Salaries -- But rewarding Directors by Giving Shares isn't this dichotomy in India ample resources are available so if you leave wont affect them someone else will join. But Directors are expensive so give them shares to retain.

Bottomline Mr Moorty you are Running a Bodyshop -- Please give Iota of credit for all the Benefits you have taken from the Nation!!

the ruling UPA is to blame. Lets talk when Modi becomes our PM

I hope wishes of Indians members come true and BJP come in power and Modi as PM, it will be a first step towards destruction of India.:smokin:

Democracy is not the problem dude, but how we are taking it is the root of all problems.
No leader in INDIA has control over the subjects of the nation. and when it mean control, its not some thing that should be achieved via force or fear, but via love for the mother land, loyalty to the job one does. we have no such leaders who make the subjects of the nation realize that there is a way out, that way out may be tough both for the subject and the leader but its promising such as educating the people not to vote for symbols but to moral or the one who is contesting and the moral of the party he is representing. make the people aware of 49-0, empower the people that if they think they can make all contestent not to reappear in a constitution for the rest of this life if 25% of votes are casted for 49-0.

Thats how Democracy should be used and not the way that its used right now. people vote for symboys, they do not even know what are the merits and demerits of the person who is representing the symbol, neither they are aware what is the party manifesto promisses the people.

I hope wishes of Indians members come true and BJP come in power and Modi as PM, it will be a first step towards destruction of India.:smokin:
you can speak for your nation, are you ready to go to a war with INDIA if NAMO becomes the PM of my nation? on the basis is that he is anti Muslim(which he is not apparently). i hope not, then STFU and listen.
your so called leaders of your nation will welcome him as PM of INDIA as he can show progress on both economy and friendship between INDIA and PAKISTAN.

Being India is being a stooge of the white man century after century. The funny thing is, they enjoy doing it.
we dont have that mentality of worshipping anyone like Indians do.
we have pride and honour in our civilization.

Comes from a guy who is not given even the rights of a slave by CPC .........

So.... replacing an inefficient government with an efficient one is the first step towards suicide. What have you been smoking man? :P

People should just leave those useless comparison alone as India and China are vastly different in many aspects, there is no fair comparison in those. If Indians have found their government or system is not working for them, they are the ones that who should be looking for a way to change all that. It is not for people other than Indians themselves demanding those changes. Since they are so proud of their system of democracy, then common people in India should know what to do, but again in my own opinion I would never trust the judgement of average voters in any countries.

Is that why Democratic Sri Lanka is ahead of rest of the nations in the subcontinet in terms of HDI and many other indicators?

you call that a democracy, even if one person does not stand by the Governments decession, the the Government has the responsibility to make the person understand that what ever decession made is good in the long run in the UNique body called as Judiciary.
Its not like kill the minority because the majority wants it and call that a democracy.

China needs focus on Japan not India

small changes dont hurt

No just USA and south korea for indicators

dont worry! we spend more time focusing on the development of our Country. india is a low priority!

In the worlds computer programming competitions, india, which has been bragging about its IT supremacy, fares badly in comparison to China, Russia, USA and others.

@chinatoday,

You laugh on thread title,we too laugh :) coz this corrupt govt have paranoid india completely..
but its not future of india...just like part of up n down

You perception is wrong. It is your wishful thinking without any rationality.

Yes, this will still be the future of your India. At least for the near future.

How near is the near future? In next 60-100 years.

Yes, in next 60-100 years, India will be more or less the same as India as is now.

Why? Because this is the culture and tradition. Without a drastic change of culture and tradition, nothing will be changed. But given the nature of democracy, no culture or tradition can be changed drastically, in addition to your deplorable education system.

Here is an example: child marriage has been illegal in India for many years, but I just read an article saying that about 25 million child marriages a year are still performed in India. Some brides are still sucking her mother’s milk… To our outsiders this is disgusting. Yet it has its social soil: the parents want their girls to be free from sexual assaults in a land where sexual harassment and raping are so rampant; they can pay less money if the broom’s age is young…

Unfortunately, ChinaToday will still have much or all of his life to laugh at you. I'm sorry ...

Don’t blame democracy; it is the mentality of our people that is causing the issues you mentioned. And, would you have loved to sacrifice your whole family or even a village for the sake of development projects? Since we have all damn freedom, we are talking about this and that….If you go and study the success story of China, you will come to know how brutal it had been..

We are much better, the problems that we see and talk are the gifts of democracy that you are aware of everything…nothing is been veiled from you…we are living in fair and free country, once it matures, you and the whole world will see the golden era of Indian system and culture!

Why don't you let your vote to speak? If the current one is bad, why don't you vote a good one to power???

Come on, buddy! Don't you see they have been voting for last 65 years?

Don't you see they have never stoped rotating?

Don't you yet see they have a bad guy rotated out only in exhange for another bad guy rotated in to fool his constituents under the name of democracy and voting?

Don't you see it is the full democracy in India allows the constutuents to have freely elected their leaders in the past 65 years with almost 30% crminals residing their parliament?

It is the culture and tradition plus their democracy that has the result: their voters have spoken and have gotten the result.

Democracy is the root cause of all our problems its the most slow, ineffective and worst form of government only developed countries can afford to have such kind of system

Let me correct you a bit according to my own studies: democracy of India style plus Indian culture and tradition (i.e. social soil in India) cause this result.

It is a long time task. it can't be done over next 50 years, much impossible for over night election.

This is why I don't support a full democracy in China but a limited democracy, with gradual growth over the next 50-100 years to a full democracy. The reason is the same: China doesn't have the social soil and the material richness yet.
