ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday reached Kabul to meet the top Afghan military and political leadership.

The army chief is expected to discuss with the Afghan military leadership the possibility of a joint military operation by the Pakistani and Afghan armies against handlers of the Peshawar carnage that left 141 dead, security sources told Dawn.

The army chief will seek the Afghan military's cooperation for "a joint operation to counter terrorism and eliminate militants hiding inside Afghanistan".
A day earlier, it had emerged that a Taliban commander Umar Naray masterminded the Peshawar attack from Afghanistan. COAS is likely to discuss the matter with Afghan officials.

Sources also said that Naray had been issuing directives to militants for carrying out the attack.

"His communications have been intercepted as well which helped security agencies in tracing his location and whereabouts which was urgently shared not only with the Afghan army but also with Nato forces," a security source said.

Sources said the army chief would seek Kabul's help in order to extradite top Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan chief Mullah Fazalullah who is wanted for terrorism cases in Pakistan.

DG Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar is also accompanying General Raheel.

They should have send those teams in by now when these TOP army people meeting afghans ...
They would not had any choice but to accept it ..

.
Hopefully it is made clear that either they hand over those terrorists to us and do joint operations on terrorists living in afghanistan and using it as a base to attack pakistan or to find shelter from the pakistani forces involved in zarb-e-azb or we will attack them ourselves with our air forces and missile capability.

Sometimes enough is enough. We cant play around the border bush anymore.

.
I think Afghanistan has no clue itself. Unfortunately that means we have to do dirty work for them. Border has to be sealed, we need to get UAV/UCAVs and attack choppers on a concrete basis. We need to get more laser strike weapons, FLIRs and above all, proper counter intelligence equipment for ISI.

Afghanistan won't do shyt. We will have to do it ourself. It is time that SSG are prepared for counter strikes in Afghanistan.

this is true
instead of letting the entire world know. the teams should have been sent covertly

now all top tier terrorists will go in hiding.
Afghans themselves dont have control outside their Capital. expecting them to keep track of terrorists in such a big country with difficult terrain is unrealistic

.
It would have been a Big Big mistake to take action unilaterally. I think General did the right thing,to put pressure on Afghans, leaving afghans with two choices hand him over or get out of the way. I am preety sure Afghans knows the whereabouts of dead man walking Mullah Fazalullah.

. .
Does it mean we are going to involve in another operation but this time outside the geographical boundaries of Pakistan?
How will this operation differ the operations being carried out inside Pakistan?
And IMO, operation after operation can accrue short term benefits but in long term this strategy is not going to benefit until and unless we take preemptive strikes against the masters of these terrorist, either covertly or overtly.

.
I hope they are there to deliver the news to evacuate civilians from Kunar and Nooristan because the jets are coming.

.
I don't see Afghanistan doing anything against rented terrorists hiding in Afghanistan, PAF should act on save havens given to these rented terrorists by Afghanistan, US & India.
