Chief of the Indian Navy Admiral Nirmal Verma is on a five-day visit to Bangladesh at the invitation of his Bangladesh counterpart Vice Admiral Zahir Uddin Ahmed. Admiral Verma is expected to call on President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and meet senior officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, according to a spokesman of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka yesterday. During his stay the Indian Navy chief will visit Chittagong, Mongla and Khulna.
On the occasion, Indian Naval Ship Airavat will visit Chittagong from April 3-7, on a goodwill visit. INS Airavat is the third ship of Shardul Class and was built in India. The ship can be effectively used for humanitarian assistance missions during natural calamities.
