COAS visits flood-hit areas

MULTAN, Aug 17 (APP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani Tuesday visited flood-hit areas and appreciated the mechanism for swift transportation of relief items to the flood hit people.Twenty one trucks and six helicopters transported 200 ton relief goods on Tuesday to the affected people in Rajanpur, Jampur, Layyah, Kotaddu, Mehmoodkot, Sinawan, and Daira Deen Panah, says an ISPR release.

Corps Commander Lt. Gen. Shafqaat Ahmad received the COAS upon his arrival in Multan after visiting flood-hit areas. The COAS also visited 2 Corps Flood Relief Centre in Multan and expressed his pleasures to see the generous contributions from the philanthropists and other people to help the affected communities.
He appreciated the passion of philanthropists in helping their brethren and hoped they would keep sending relief goods and donations with the same spirit.
Later, COAS left for Sukkur after taking an aerial view of the flood-hit South Punjab.
Meanwhile, Army rescue teams rescued 150 people on Tuesday and shifted them to safer places from Shah Jamal, Shah Garh, and Retra on the instructions from Corps Commander Multan.
Army engineering Corps is not only busy in plugging breaches in canals but also restoring road links broken by the history’s worst ever floods.
He directed Army officers and Jawans to ensure swift transportation of relief goods to affected people so that they may not feel themselves alone in these testing times.

many of our youngsters are very much willing to join pak army.now eligibility critaria for pma long course is upgraded to 60% which is hindring many of youngsters,
the critaria remained 50% for a long time and it was the best one.all other commission exams like PPSC,FPSC etc.have 50%.

on the behalf of all youth I request you to restore it to 50% once again.
or at least give a chance to repeater candidates who have less than 60% marks

Gen Kayani, Conway discuss defence issues

ISLAMABAD - US Marine Corps Commander, General James T Conway, Wednesday called on Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, at General Headquarters on Wednesday.
The visiting dignitary remained with the Army Chief for some time and discussed matters of professional interest.
Military sources said that US Commander expressed his full support for Pakistan that is passing through tough circumstances due to sweeping floods. US will continue to provide timely funds for the flood affectees, he said.
Sources further said that the COAS and General Conway discussed issues pertaining to national security, war against terrorism and defence needs in length.
 
CENTCOM chief in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: US General James Mattis is on his first visit to Pakistan after replacing General David Petraeus as commander of Central Command (CENTCOM).

During his visit, Gen Mattis plans to visit flood-affected areas with Pakistani officials. He will review ongoing US support to relief efforts and discuss areas where the US may be able to support Pakistan. As head of CENTCOM, Mattis oversees US military operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as across the Middle East, including Iraq and Iran. He also heads the US Joint Forces Command, based in Norfolk, Virginia When the Obama administration named General James Mattis as CENTCOM chief, American media reported him as “an erudite combat veteran known for quoting poetry and openly expressing his enthusiasm for killing the enemy”. In his meetings with Pakistan’s civilian and military leaders, Gen Mattis will provide an update on the current US strategy in Afghanistan and discuss other regional security issues. Kayani visits flood-affected areas in Sindh

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Kayani on Tuesday visited the flood-affected areas of southern Punjab and Sindh.

He flew over the flooded areas and stopped at Multan, Nawabshah, Kotri Barrage and Thatta, and witnessed the relief activities. Local military commanders briefed him on the progress of rescue and relief operations by the army, says a press release.

The COAS appreciated efforts of the army formations and emphasised the need to continue assisting civil administration in the daunting task of relief and rehabilitation. He also met the aviation team of United Arab Emirates and civil defence rescue team of Saudi Arabia, who are engaged in the rescue and evacuation. He lauded the response of the friendly countries in providing much-needed assistance to Pakistan.
 
Army Chief visits Army Aviation Base Tarbella

TARBELLA, Aug 25(APP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Army Aviation Base Tarbella today and met with officers and men engaged in flood relief operations.

He also met US helicopters crew engaged in rescue and relief operations and appreciated their efforts and support.

Earlier, on arrival at Tarbella Base, COAS was received by Lieutenant General Asif Yasin, Corps Commander Peshawar.
