Thats a silly logic , its the acting caliber of the actor which is taken into acount , not his nationality .

At least zia was better looking---facial beauty is very important in the u s of a to leave a positive impact on viewers. The movie was a little too short. It should have been close to two hours.

I don't see anything bad in it lol om puri is cool and far better looking than zia was anyway he plays pakistanis in alot of western films we should honour him for raising our profile besides lets be honest theres no pak actors for the role om puri is an established actor and an indian is probably as close to a pakistani as you can get.
Look at the tv series 24 there was a white/latino actress playing a pakistani girl and she was one of the good guys and pretty hot to ! lol i'm not gonna complain about that coz like they say any publicity is good

They didn't say he's bad coz he's indian they're just saying it woulda been better for a pakistani actor.Look when that geisha film came out the the japanese kicked up a big fuss over chinese actresses playing geishas doesn't mean say they think everyhing in china is bad.
The same things is happening here though on a small scale of an indian playing a pakistani president they would just have rather had a pakistani actor that's all not saying he's bad coz he's indian it's the fact he's non-pakistani period it woulda been the same if it was say a white guy.Anyway i'm pakistani and i think om puri is awesome.

I agree. The point is not that an Indian playing a Pakistani can not do a good job. A case in point is the police inspector Javed Habib in the Daniel Pearl movie "A mighty heart" who was played by an Indian actor named "Irfan Khan". He did a pretty good job of playing a Pakistani inspector.

The issue with Zia's role is that Pakistanis have seen him up and close and I am sure there must have been at least 1 person on the Pakistani film/theater/drama scene who could have played his role in the movie...in any case I can't really comment on it till I see the movie myself. The book definitely was very interesting and usually the movies are a let down because so much is lost when adapting it for the screen.

I too am pissed that the movie producers chose Om Puri to act as Zia instead of a Pakistani. This is like a slap to our faces; as if they can't find a Pakistani good enough to play his own ex-president.
