Changing Colonial era Names (Philippines, Indonesia)

Should the Philippines and Indonesia be renamed?

The Pinoys are too anglicanized to change their country's name. Just look at their own names -Spanish.

The psychics of the Pinoys leans more towards the west than towards the east. Could be because the majority are Catholics as opposed to Indonesians Muslims which are middle-eastern.

Yes, such a sad thing. If it wasn't for those Spaniards, my people would have a proud culture. We would speak similar to the Malaysians and Indonesians, and also have our own characters. (writings)

Also, our culture would be free of any foreign influence.

Muslims have Arab names. I don't see why Indonesians are excluded in criticism.

One cannot renam a whole nation on behalf of a petition of a nation. Unless the point you are making is the Moro IS Philippine. Then it will make his point valid. Fact is,this is far from the truth. Moro only represent less than 5% of the whole Philippine, and that is already a generous given. Calling to rename the name of the country on behalf of those 5% (Filipino) is like trying to renam Americas on behalf of the Native American or try to rename Australia on behalf of indegious people. Which is stupid (already a good way to put it)

Even if you are a Moro, at best you can do is not calling yourselves a Filipino, but you have absolutely no right to rename the country as a whole, like it then you can use it, don't like it? Then stop being Filipino

The best way to deal with the brain fart from this guy is to ignore him, don't give him the satisfaction on pissing you off, if you let that happen, he'd already won

According to Mahabharata, as well as the many puranas and diverse Indian history, Bharat Empire included the whole territory of the subcontinent, including parts of present day Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, North-west Tibet, Nepal and Bangladesh, and there are some who state that Bharat means the whole world.

The above comment is not True.

Vishnu Purana accounts the extent of Bharatavarsha,

उत्तरं यत्समुद्रस्य हिमाद्रेश्चैव दक्षिणम् ।
वर्षं तद् भारतं नाम भारती यत्र संततिः ।।

uttaraṃ yatsamudrasya himādreścaiva dakṣiṇam
varṣaṃ tadbhārataṃ nāma bhāratī yatra santatiḥ

"The country that lies north of the ocean and south of the snowy mountains is called Bhārat; there dwell the descendants of Bharata."

Wasn't the word Moro too coined by Spaniards based on the name Moor, the North African Arabs who ruled over Iberia. The Muslims of Mindanao reminded them of Moors.

If you don't want Western colonial names then stop using Western colonial languages like English, Spanish and French, stop wearing designer Western clothes, stop eating Mac Donald's and drinking Coca Cola, stop watching Hollywood films...

In the United States they still use British colonial names and in Britain they still use the Roman name 'Britannia' when Britain was part of the Roman Empire.

So, if Western countries don't care about their 'colonial' history, why should we?

Why are you such an idiot? really why? I now literally believe you have the mental capacity of a troglodyte.

Tho TOPIC is about RENAMING A NATION. It's NOT about the your MORO FETISH. You've basically gone OFF-TOPIC in your OWN TOPIC.

Does your "keybord worrior jihad kruisade" gives you the warrant to rename a whole country whilst not even a member of the said country and the dominant culture there?

Here's a tip, the answers can be a NO or a NO. Look at the bolded letters.

Just ignore him dude, he is just another troll trying to digging up your patience.

The name India is derived from Indus, which originates from the Old Persian word Hinduš. The latter term stems from the Sanskrit word Sindhu, which was the historical local appellation for the Indus River. The ancient Greeks referred to the Indians as Indoi (Ινδοί), which translates as "the people of the Indus".

The geographical term Bharat, which is recognised by the Constitution of India as an official name for the country, is used by many Indian languages in its variations.

The eponym of Bharat is Bharata, a theological figure that Hindu scriptures describe as a legendary emperor of ancient India. Hindustan was originally a Persian word that meant "Land of the Hindus".

So....we CALL OURSELVES PAKISTANI...you jealous Indoi (accepted from what Persians called you)

I agree with it. India for the nation leaving east of Indus river. 75% Pakistan lies West of Indus river. Your jealousy comes because Pakistan except Baloch and Pashtuns were historically referred as Indians or Hindustani, Pakistan didn't want us to retain that name and identity.

Countries around the world are shedding their colonial imposed names and reverting to local names.

It's only a discussion - no one is "imposing" anything on anybody.

If you don't like the subject, take a break instead of launching personal attacks on people.

Muslims of Pakistan too proudly name their kids Sikander. So, when you think Greeks were invaders, why so love for the name Sikander.

We have no problem with "invaders" it is the indos of PDF who keep bringing up "INVADER ARABS" just coz they cant link with them so teach them your history lesson that they too pride on BHARAT OR INDIA given BY INVADERS!!

We had no problem with the names given by Persians(Hind, Hindu, Hindustan) and Greeks(India). Who told you Bharat is the name given by invaders. Bharat is obtained from the name of legendary Emperor Bharata, Bharata means Cherished one.
