Rawalpindi - December 15, 2010:

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Khalid Shameem Wynne has said that "our regional environments compel us to maintain strong conventional forces backed up by credible minimum nuclear deterrence. Our nuclear capability is only intended to ensure peace and stability.

We have no ambitions of becoming a Regional power but we have every intention of preserving our sovereignty and territorial integrity. We seek nothing beyond our own secure frontiers and we pose no threat to any other country". He made these remarks while addressing the convocation ceremony of the civilian participants of National Security & War Course at National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad.

While addressing the civilian Graduates, General Wynne said "Test of leadership is in the judicious utilization of the available resources. But this is only a part of the answer; the other part consists of evolving and implementing polices which aim at enlarging the resource base as well as minimizing the security risks. This is where your role gets defined as the future policy makers".

Congratulating the Graduates, General Wynne expressed hope that the enhanced knowledge, competence, capacity for analysis and decision making would make them "the Graduates of NDU" an asset for the nation and the world at large.

Paying glowing tribute to the institution, CJCSC stated that NDU has emerged as a premier seat of learning not only for Armed Forces officers and civil bureaucracy of Pakistan but for senior officers from friendly countries as well.

Earlier on arrival at NDU, CJCSC was received by Lieutenant General Agha Muhammad Umer Farooq, President NDU.
