CEO of Italian aerospace giant Finmeccanica arrested for India bribes

.
I wonder if this is the Indian media at it again. A few months ago the indian media whipped themselves into a frenzy over allegations of corruption relating to India, these allegations were proved to be 100% false and unsubstantiated and investigators were left scratching their heads as to where these allegations had even come from or what they were based on. If there was even the hint of mal-practice in the AW-101 deal does anyone really think the MoD would have just gone through with the deal??!! Please- today if there is an ounce of truth in allegations a deal is stalled indefinitely or cancelled outright- look at the effingh RSH/LUH deal for God's sake!

it turned out there seemed to be no Indian connection to these allegations and the investigation centered solely in Italy/Europe. Once again, from this news, there doesn't seem to be an actual Indian connection but because the AW-101 has passed the media are jumping to conclusions.

This still looks like an internal matter for the Italians.

I will not come to any conclusion just yet. Corruption takes many forms. "Padding a deal" to incorporate pay-offs (in the form of speed-money) is one of them. The product in question otherwise has no flaws or is suitable.
I call that "Skimming"; which is different from "Scamming".
"Scamming" involves payments/graft to induce purchase of something inferior/unsuitable.

The Bofors Howitzer deal involved "Skimming" not "Scamming". Because it was a good enough product by itself.

Most corruption in Defence Deals involves "Skimming". Let us see what else surfaces during the ensuing investigations in Italy.

Yeah, fair enough.

Yes it could well turn out to be a case similar to Walmart Lobbying case.
Let us all wait for investigation on Italian side to complete and true picture to emerge before drawing conclusions.
PS Would be interesting to see tonight's Times Now 9.00 pm show, Arnab may go ballistic on the issue :mamba:

The first of these Italian-made helicopters have already arrived in India. These choppers are meant to fly the President, Prime Minister and other important dignitaries.

What? These people dont like to fly in incredibly indigenous Dhruv?

Nothing moves in India without bribes - fact of life!

Arnab can go ballistic just like that, for no particular reason. He is India's "Unguided Ballistic Missile".

Looks like Pakistani instincts strike prior to learning about the subject being discussed.

HAL Dhruv is already in use for VIP transport of state Govts

HAL delivers Dhruv to Jharkhand

HAL’s Dhruv gets CCS approval

However Dhruv being small has little room entire entourage of the President or PM

Hence a larger helicopter like AgustaWestland AW101 does the job

Dude this time things are a bit twisted. Italy arrested the CEO of Finnemeca from Milan after conducting it's own investigation and found out that kickbacks were given to India. So now one investigation will be carried Out by India too.
So it's safe to assume that it will take at least another 6 months or so before delivery resumes

. .
Expect Italian marines to be released soon. Italian government has got this corrupt government by balls now. Sickening, wait for the Baretta one now.

.
that's sad.. corruption is surely making India a risky place to deal with.

You do not seem to know how graft/corruption works. It works in various ways and at various levels. One scenario is one in which Giuseppe Orsi (for example) himself sets up the deal with middlemen or even with a representative of the buyer to "pad the deal" i.e. to inflate the costs. Then he himself and other facilitators share the spoils according to some arrangements. This has nothing to do with the merits/demerits of the equipment/product. All corruption does not originate from the buyer's side.

This is how "Skimming" works as I explained in an earlier post. Why do you think that it is being investigated by Italian authorities?
So let us wait and see what else gets unearthed.

.
and now CONggies have appointed CBI......feet licking investigating agency......the result will be same like all other bhopal tragedy, bofors scam.....only file papers.... but they can't catch anyone.... and we all know all roads lead to 10 Janpath....dont we?
