NAGERCOIL:

We oppose establishing Enayam International Container Transhipment Terminal (EICTT) and not the Commercial Port proposed by the union government at Colachel, fishermen said in one voice at the monthly fishermen grievances meeting held at the collectorate on Friday.

Fishermen and their representatives participated in the grievances meeting alleged that the Union Minister had misled the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa during his meeting in Chennai recently. The Minister had apprised the Chief Minister that the union government is establishing Commercial Port in Colachel and not the true picture about EICTT, fishermen alleged.

Fishermen and the villagers who are facing possible threat of eviction in the name of

land acquisition in and around Enayam village, opposing EICTT project for the last three

months. The Fishermen and the Peoples’ Movement Against Enayam International

Container Transhipment Terminal (PMAEICTT) had staged various forms of agitations

opposing the EICTT.

Kurumbanai Berlin, District Secretary of the Neithal People’s Movement, Parish Priests Stephen, Anbarasan, John Bosco and representatives of fishermen spoke in length about opposing EICTT.

The leaders said that the Chief Minister had promised to bring commercial port in Colachel and they expect that she would fulfill her promise, they said.

The fishermen and their leaders urged the district administration to take up the issue with the state government or arrange a meeting with the Chief Minister to express their fear over the EICTT project.

Presiding over the grievances meeting, Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan said that state government had expressed its support for the EICTT project, hence, fishermen and their representatives can meet the Chief Minister and express their grievances in person, he adds.

Meanwhile, the Peoples’ Movement Against Enayam International Container Transhipment Terminal (PMAEICTT) has called for massive hunger strike in Devicode on Saturday.

The organization along with the fishermen community has also planning for a rally of mechanized and country boats from Thengaipattinam to Kanniyakumari on Sunday to press their demand.

Too many mufath ka funds from Vatican.
They have only one goal and every step they take is only towards fulfilment of that goal.

Church is in full action. Since their puppet Uday Kumar was exposed in 2014 election. Good times ahead

Time to strictly enforce FCRA regulations and dry up their foreign funding.

What do you think?

Yep.. because this project is going to root out 7 villages that rely on Fishing.

Too many mufath ka funds from Vatican.

So what do you want us to do... vocate our places and give go ahead to the project that's not going to Function??

There's no foreign funding... this has been going on for a year now.. its only getting into your attention now

Yes.
YOU are NOT the first people in India or the world who are being "PAID" very well with "Guarenteed" employment to vacate lands for a project.

Problem with people is that they want roads, factories, schools, hospitals and every other facility available to them BUT they don't want to EVER be inconvenienced during building of all those things..

I guess some magical fairy creates electricity or vehicles will run on magical roads or perhaps you lot would go to a magical hospital..err..you already got magical hospital where shouting "AMEN" cures even cancer now a days..

LoL.... really paid well and guarenteed employment!!!??? Do you know how much they're paying???? 800feet land and 3 lac... my own house in Enayam costs 45 lac including land. so does my other two brothers houses.

Dude. I'm from Enayam... i know what we want and what we've.. we never asked for Roads and factories... School.. we've school which is going to be removed along with the hospital church and masque. we've all the facility in my place be it school, hospital, bank, post offcie and a bus stand..

First of all you don't know a thing about my place so don't talk... our places only rely on Fishing that's theor main source of income... you take that away and out them in north about 10km away from sea, what do they've to run our lives with??? do you know only my village has about 5 thousand families??? now thing about rest of the 6 villages??? and in future more villages has to be rooted out..

And I've been swiming and diving in Enayam for yeas i know how deep is that sea... its not at all deep, and they have to dig alot... all for why... we've already have a port in tutucorin which is not doing anything economically well,
the other blunder is we've a transist port in Vizhinjam just 30 KM from my Village they don't want to expand that but to build a new one which is going to root out the lives of 7 villiages and more???

What are you talking about

Less Development = Less Employment = More Poor = More Souls to Harvest ...

Please be aware of those places.... we're not poor or uneducated or unemployed...
My own village has 95% of literacy ratio. most of them are working in Gulf, Singapore and US. rest of them rely on fishing and now MP Rathakrishnan wants to make some money by bringing a project in a most crowded place replace them to a location 10km away from sea!!!! tell me what do we've to do to support our lives?? tis project will alone remove lacs offamilies 10s of churches and Schools, Hospitals and masques... Do you think our place is some typical village with no facility??? I suggest all of you to know the place and talk... and This project was originally came in a place called Colachel but they refused it there and now its being pushed down to us,,, and let me tell you GOI has to kill 100s people before laying a first stone for the project

Sir can you explain Uday Kumar connection with Church during TN nuclear power plant. Earlier church was playing from background now playing openly.

Having said that there may be some genuine persons, Hope state can work to mitigate them

Try..... and even many off the farmers losing their land due to land grabbing for railway and roads.. LoL..

both are different issues.. I've no idea about Uday Kumar.. but this is not the same... here we've muslim clerics as well who are protesting with us bu the papers are eager to print only the catholic priests..

In Koodankulam Gov promised to implement certain security features before staring to operationalize the plant but they failed to do so which sparked another incident.

Here you want ot build a container facility which was rejected from a prime location, and this project is rooting out 7 villiages which are over crowded, not to mention the stronghold of Congress(which i don't care) and sending them far away robbing of their profession. you'll are talking about infra dev... plz tell me what does this project brings to the economy??? we already have the same ports in Vizhijngam which is 30km from this port, we've one in Tutucorin which is bankrupt. and one in Chennai.. our location has no single factory to support this project while i mentioned 3 other location has everything ut still they're going down due to the big port in Lanka

What do you mean 'NONE' ...this port along with Vizhinjam is India's answer to Colombo as transhipment hub ...
Asking for more compensation is perfectly alright, I empathize with you ...but questioning the viability of a project just because you grew up around the fisher folk around there ,is borderline ridiculous ..

Please read up a DPR or something of the ministry of ports or something ...there is no point arguing about that here ...neither you nor the forumers are experts here

hello... the port in Vizhinjam has more chance to counter Colombo than this.. Vizhinjam has all the infra and the phase of dev is still going on their..

no one is asking for compensation... compensation is not a solution, that's not going to let us run our livelihood in a long run. We've been asking for a airport for decades now why can't they fullfill that???

like i said again... there're is one in vizhinjam, tutucorin and in Chennai, please tell me what do they bring to the econoy.. there're guys workign in tutucorin **** from my side.... the port is not even able to pay them properly

it bring economy... yes, to MP Pon Rathakrishnan.... do you know the proposed location of the project ?? tell him if he's capable of building this project their.!! no, why because near by the project location there's a very famous hindu temple called maindaikadu bhagavathi amman, that had to be evacuated so they opposed... But all you people have no problem in removing churches, masqus, schools and hospitals along with lacs of people... Why???? and the proposed location has a natural harbor which was used way back from King of travancore, while my village has shallow water...
