Why is Spanish government not allowing a referendum in that case?
They are scared Catalans would have voted for independence.

The Spanish people (including the Catalans) have agreed that a divided Spain is a bad thing,
and have also agreed that a temporary small majority should not be allowed to divide the country.
Such decisions are only acceptable after a qualified majority (2/3 or even 3/4) votes yes,
and a certain percentage of the voter base actually votes.

A change of constitution is therefore neccessary to allow such a division,
and the Catalan independence movement have failed to achieve their goals
using democratic means, and therefore attempts to achieve them through a coup.

Catalonians deserve a state, so why not give them one?

Westerners support all sorts of separatism throughout the middle east and yet when it comes to their unity they don't give a sh*t about any minorities.

Catalonia is a nation and has the natural right to secede if more than 50% vote to leave in a vote.

I lived in Saudi Arabia for 18 years, I did Hajj, nobody in Makkah wants to secede from Saudi Arabia.
