ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government's budget for the fiscal year 2011-2012 treats the president and the prime minister like Mughal emperors despite the sinking financial health of the country.
In a country where almost half of the population lives below the poverty, billions are being spent on just the top two rulers president Asif Ali Zardari and PM Yousaf Raza Gilani, The News reports.
Apart from what is spent on the officials of the presidency, the prime minister's secretariat and the PM's House, an enormous amount has been allocated to look after the luxury of these two top rulers. Unlike the cabinet ministers, advisers, special assistants and members of the senate and national assembly, who will get a 15% raise, the president and the PM have not been given any raise.
The salaries of Zardari and Gilani remain unchanged and meagre Rs one million rupees for the president and Rs 1.08 million for the PM. However, the taxpayers have to cough up almost 2 billion rupees merely for the foreign tours of these emperors of Pakistan. For state conveyance and motorcars of PM, the nation would have to pay Rs 24.6 million. Rs 45 million are being allocated for the wages of Gilani's household servants. The PM would also get Rs 14.3 million for maintenance of his gardens.
Zardari will get Rs 110 million merely for his staff and Rs 39 million for wages of the president's servants. For the maintenance of the presidency's gardens, 15 million rupees are being allocated.
PAK BROs can better comment on this as its none of our business.
