Carrier Landing in a sandstorm

What an awesome demonstration of technical abilities and flying skills:

With zero visibility and landing aircraft which was visible 2 seconds before landing and adjusting aircraft accordingly in split second, just shows pilot has a nerve of steel and instincts of falcon

Yes, plus a lot of practice and training, and state of the art technological aids. Simply remarkable landing.

who here thinks that the sand storm is cooler then carrier?

THis definitely calls for cool and focussed flying by the Pilot. But it also needs the right kind of equipment. For example here, the Carrier would need to have a TACAN beacon and ICLS (the carrier's equivalent) of ILS. So that the Pilot can come in "flying the needles". He does not have the usual "Meatball" to visual in on. All of that has to work in perfect synergy to achieve the safe recovery of the aircraft that we saw here.

Yes, it is described as landing on a postage stamp in the middle of the ocean for good reason. Carrier landings at night are good demonstrations of this prowess too.

WTF was a 'sandstorm' doing in the middle of the ocean? :what: Or was this a flight simulator? I think so. Because one can do anything to change the weather at the click of a button - lake snow-fall in the Thar desert!! :azn:

I have the Microsoft FSX flight sim and done plenty of carrier landings like the one shown in the video with the help of TACAN and ILS. Not easy but exciting anyway! It's hands-off till the last 10m above deck level and then.....you could either make it or get majorly screwed but live to land another day. It's a sim after all! :D But in real life if you screw up, it's curtains!!
:hang2:
