News - Car plant to be set up at Savar

Dhaka, Nov 19 (UNB) - Hindustan Motors Limited, a flagship venture of the multi-billion-dollar CK Birla Group, India, in collaboration with Intraco Group will set up a car manufacturing plant at Savar.

The plant will be set with an estimated cost of US$ 10 million and both the companies have a plan to assemble 10,000 cars within the next three years. Initially, they will assemble 200 cars.

This was informed at the launching ceremony of Ambassador, India's most trusted car, in Bangladesh.

Intraco Group arranged the event at Hotel Sonargaon with Intraco Group Managing Director Riyadh Ali in the chair.

Industries Minister Dilip Barua formally inaugurated the marketing of Ambassador in Bangladesh. Intraco Group is the lone distributor of the brand in the country.

Acting Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Sanjoy Bhattacharyya, FBCCI senior vice president M Jashim Uddin and Managing Director of Hindustan Motors Manoj Jha, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Addressing the function, Barua said there are huge potentials for joint ventures in Bangladesh. “I think invitation of Hindustan Motors to work in Bangladesh is wise and it can avail of the opportunities to explore their state-of-the-art technology in our country.”

Barua suggested the organisers to plan for upgrading models in the future and expand the car plant gradually. “I’m happy to know that in the future both of your companies will go for export.”

He laid emphasis on quality production and competitive prices to capture the market.

The Ambassador brand has various options to use fuels like CNG, Petrol or Diesel.

Officials said Bangladesh would be benefited if it assembles cars in the country instead of importing taxicabs from India.

I have full endorsement if an Indian car making company invests in Bangladesh to build a factory that will assemble cars. This is much better than importing cars directly from India. The GoB will certainly encourage this by recducing duties on the imported body and engine parts. However, I must say the parts should be manufactured in Bangladesh soil in the future.

.
This unfortunately will rather end up in a sad ballade just like
the last time. The authorities importing ambassador
cars almost got bankrupt because of low demand, previously.

They can import all they want but no ones gonna buy them.

10 million dollar car industry???? Somebody trying to fool somebody.

I think its a scam to bypass high import duty.

Ambassador is dead in India. No one buys that car anymore. It's a nice car, but the design is a bit 50's

.
You think Bangladeshis will buy Ambassador??? Muhahahahahah

I still believe its a scam and probably opting for taxi market. Last time even taxi ambassador was a flop.

.
Only ambassador and Indica are build for Indian roads.(All roads and non-roads too)
Are roads in bangladesh any better?

A suicidal decision by Intraco. Who would buy an ugly ambassador instead of Japanese imported one?
I think it is for taxi market. In passenger cars, amby cant beat second hand japanese cars in value for money.
Anyway, probably HM will lose more than that other non-descript company.

Intraco is in a desperate situation following the policies of government concerning the CNG. You see, their whole business is pretty much based upon CNG and now it seems government does nt want pvt cars to use CNG which basically means doom for the businesses associated with CNG. Seems like a desperate attempt to me.

@ Let them invest probably they donnot the Bengalee sentiment ???? Does the Indians knows our teste ? Since the British times we are using foreign made cars from UK, Germany, Japan and USA.

@ I tell you within a few years the whole industry will become a scrap. Well, may be few taxi's might be sold !!! The assembling of trucks could had been better.

@ I doubt, even the Awami Leaders will not even buy these Indian made cars.

.
I swear, I have never actually rode on an Ambassador

Would people buy it instead of modern looking Japanese reconditioned cars? I kinda doubt it.

What a ridiculous comment. Can you name any country that uses Lamborghini's and Rolls Royce's as taxis?

Besides, Bangladesh already use Maruti 800s, Zens and Toyota's as taxis. ALL in broken condition  Don't matter if it's a Maruti or a Mercedes.

Seeing from how those "drivers" drive cars, those people are better off pulling rickshaws  Rickshaws ftw
