Indian's ambassador autos roll out in local market
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS)
DHAKA, Nov 19 (BSS) - Ambassador, India's most trusted automobile brand of Hindustan Motors, hit the market here today as a leading local business conglomerate, Intraco Motors Ltd, teamed with Hindustan Motors, the oldest flagship venture of CK Birla Group.
Two types of ambassador cars -- Petrol/CNG-run (1800CC and AC) and diesel-run (1350 CC and AC) -- vehicles would be available on local markets while the cars would cost Taka 22.50 lakh and 15.50 lakh respectively.
Intraco officials said the ambassador cars would initially be sold among customers for personal use only but many believe that these automobiles are priced too high compared to imported vehicles available here.
"I would like to invite you (Indian automobile investors) to invest directly or relocate your industry in Bangladesh. As a minister I assure you allout support on behalf of the government," Industries Minister Dilip Barua said while inaugurating the ambassador at a city hotel.
Acting High Commissioner of India in Dhaka Sanjoy Bhattacharya, senior vice-president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Jashim Uddin, managing director of Hindustan Motors Manoj Jha, and managing director of Intraco Ltd Riyadh Ali were, among others, present on the occasion.
Barua hoped that not only Intraco but also the country's other companies would come forward with a joint venture initiative to set up car manufacturing plant here in coming days.
Favouring the ambassador car as taxi on Dhaka roads, Jashim said, "We don't have adequate cars for using as taxi in the country."
It would be better if the ambassador car is assembled here, he said and called upon both the Hindustan Motors and Intraco to assemble cars in Bangladesh which will surely add value to industrialization."
"We need more low-cost cars for middle- income people," the FBCCI leader said. He cited an example of Walton Industries Ltd, a leading local company, saying it has proved that how a local automobile industry can go a long way after being provided with the government policy support.
Sanjoy said the ambassador brand has proved its efficiency. "You can put your confidence in the car," he added.
The high commissioner praised Bangladesh's resilient economy saying this is the unique time to strengthen Dhaka-Delhi relations for economic prospect.
Referring to India's duty-and-quota-free market access facility for Bangladesh, he said Bangladesh's trade prospect is enormous in the coming days.
"Dhaka-Delhi future lies in joint-venture initiatives," said Sanjoy.
Irad Ali said that the new car would have a very good impact on the local markets. "We have a plan to set up a automobile assembling unit if the demand for the brand increases."
Mentioning salient features, Manoj Jha said the car could be used either using petrol or CNG (compressed natural gas).
The cars would cost 22.5 and 15.5 lakh taka!!!
Is this a big joke or robbery in day light ???? Such a huge price tag for a backdated modeled car. N how this amount is a low cost???
