Beijing has been the capital of PRC since 1949. Rather, I remember reading Zhou Enlai's comment somewhere, that he considered choosing Beijing as one of the strategic miscalculations, because at the declaration of the formation of the People's Republic, Nanjing wasn't totally under control of CPC. But Nanjing came in control soon after.

I always think that the Central China and Southern China have been kinda ignored to some extent.

Wouldn't it be wise to have a system of rotating the capital? Perhaps after 100 years.

Why can't the capital shift to say Wuhan or Changsha in Central China, or Guangzhou in Southern China, after 2049?
It is a well seen trend, that generally the people near the capital are more politically oriented. Why not switch the capital?

If you study Chinese history, only capital at North is strong.

The Northern Chinese has a sort of barbaric character in them and putting capital there makes China more martial. The Dynasties that put capital in the South are full of court intrigue and emperor often get addicted to sex.

True, capitals in the south, like Hangzhou and Nanjing where life is so easy and colourful. The second emperor of Ming moved the capital from Nanjing to Beijing.

Wuhan was created because KMT moved the national government from Guangzhou to Wuhan in 1920s. Hankou(a municipality), Hanyang( a county) and Wuchang(capital of Hubei Province, where 1911 revolution happened) were united as a single municipality called Wuhan ever since. A couple of years late, two KMT national governments, thus Wuhan National Government and Nanjing National Government united as a single Nanjing National Government.

Northern China and NE China are the most backward place along with western China.
But Southern China, Eastern China and Central China are always rich. If there is no capital in Northern China, their economy will be nothing but heavy industry.

1000 years ago ... China's captial ever located in ChangAn city (Shan Xi province ) of North-West China in Tang Dynasty.
800 years ago ... China's captial ever located in KaiFeng city (He Nan province) of Middle China in Song Dynasty.
Just recent 500 years ... China's captial moved to BeiJing city of North China or NanJing city of South China.

I think it's a traditional custom that strong Chinese government located the captial in North China like BeiJing, only weak Chinese government's captial in NanJing of South China when they facing foreign threats from the North.

BeiJing as 500-year old captial during Ming Dynasty/ Yuan Dynasty/ Qing Dynasty ... it's a good place for PRC, NanJing as former captial for KMT's ROC government ... it's obvious CPC didn't choose it.

So was Nanjing National Government which had little control over Northern China.

Yes, during past 1,000 years China history ... the threats usually come from the North side, even CPC get strong in North China and take the South China from former ROC government in NanJing city. The same reason for Sino-Japan War development in WWII.

So we can see, Chinese captial in North China like BeiJing city ... it's good for whole China national defence. THIS IS A HISTORICAL LESSON FOR CHINA.

For the past 5-600 years, Southern Chinese keep sending our talent to Beijing, emasculating ourselves.

Today most best schools and research institution are in Beijing despite that Southern Chinese achieve far better academic performance than Northern Chinese. Reason being, central government keep investing in Beijing.

I guess Chinese is a quite socialist culture and no one really cares about it.

The South China provinces get RICH, and North China provinces get POWER ... so different sides ppl get their wants.

LOL ... that's we said why South government whose captial located in South China city is a weak China ... the history didn't say a lie. They just can't stop foreign threats from North side.

But there are no more threats from the North, the threats today are from the South. Shouldn't by that logic, the capital be placed in the South.

Even as a Southern Chinese, I still oppose China Capital move South.

The Southern Chinese mentality is too complicated and lack of a certain kind of masculiness.

I have a similar question, why not move Indian capital to Mumbai or Bangalore. Northern India is too poor.

India is dominated by cow belt Aryan Hindi and Punjabi. Before British seated themselves in Kolkata, land of Arayan Bengali.

The Hindi make noise and make British move to Delhi.

No, that's precisely why it can't be in the South.

Until China has regional naval ascendancy, putting the capital in the South, or any coastal area, is out of the question. After a final solution is found for the US problem, the 21st century equivalent of the Xiongnu threat for us, then a serious debate for capital relocation can begin.
