Thats because of the heavy investment of saudia in spreading out wahabism, noteably the funds allocated to zakir naik in india and setting up his channel which is now seen world wide, preaching wahabism.

Wahabi thoughts are getting popular here in the US also. Many Pakistanis here are very close to Arabs more than Indian Muslims or Bangladeshi Muslims. I know so many Pakistanis who are getting married to Arabs and now many Pakistanis go to Arab Masjids instead of Pakistani Masjids.
They are forgetting the Sufi way of Islam of their ancestors and are following Wahabi way.

The author hints in his article Sufi Islam = peaceful and The real Islam as Violent while some here in this thread failed to point it out..Don't forget no deviation in Islam..There was no Sufi Islam Islam is Islam and always Peaceful.

i think a bit of both would do for eg i like the wahabbi view points when it comes to prayers salah it is more simple rather then our desi nazaqat i also dont belive in the syed are spacial and i oppose it strongly everybody is the same so wahabbi islam makes things easy here, but suppose one is faced with an unusal problem say like jinn, or magic, etc i dont agree with the wahabbi way its just too hard & i adore the sufi's way of curing it i also find tabeez to be something sacred gifted by ALLAH not shirk i also like the intersession part though should be in limits i also like the way shia's love the Holy Prophets (pbuh) Famly (may peace be with them) so i guess we cant just make any single one dominant a little bit of both would work just my two cents

Sufi Islam, Wahabi islam or any other kind -- Please remember that religion is what it's adherents practice.

many will argue that "real" Islam is not being practiced, like some will argue that "real" communism was not practiced -- then some will argue that the adherents are to blame, like some will argue that communists were to blame, not communism.

Lets not blow any smoke each others way, religion is what adherents practice, otherwise, it's pie in the sky kind of stuff.

Fahm e din - understanding of religion is different for different levels of education, for different training or bias, this goes without saying - however; the beloved prophet and his so called Sahaba were Arabs of a particular time, in a particular geographical location, in a particular time -- they too were bound by their CONTEXT.

Understanding of religion cannot be merely behaving as historical personalities in a specific CONTEXT - after all, will keeping a beard like the beloved of God, make one as if the beloved of God?? Or will practice of the beloved love, patience, forgiveness, submissivness and surrender to the Will of God??

Here, with religion, it is the meaning in these acts abd behaviours that impart values, that should be important, not the outward appearance - at least to my thinking.

So what difference if Wahabi or Jafarer or Ismaili or anything else, if one does not seek discovery and surrender to the will of God --It's sad that these the most important and personal of human endeavor must become victim to brand name identification.
