Indian style governance is really wonderful for any career politician. You lose big time and continue not to deliver, and the elite (those who are literate and come from a higher class) will keep propping you up for system perpetuation.
As for the rest of the hundreds of millions of the illiterate, the visual media, which does not require much of a brain but a mother tongue to communicate, will keep them happily (or unhappily) ignorant.
The question is not really if India can become a driver of world GDP "over" the next 20 years. The question is not even the non-existent manufacturing chains, clusters, infrastructure, efficiency and quality labor force.
The question is the mentality. This, judging by this board, has not changed so far.
So, no, India won't be taking over in any qualitative way. Other [relatively] big population SEA states will be joining to contribute more to growth.
