Cameron wants 'new special relationship' with India
London, May 7, (PTI)

David Cameron, the man most likely to take over as the next Prime Minister of Britain, has promised to forge a "new special relationship" with India and support India's bid for a seat in the UN Security council.

Cameron, who made his first overseas visit as leader of the Conservative party to India in 2006, has been in close touch with the Indian community, extolling the 'Hindu way of life'.

He has often addressed large gatherings of Indian spiritual leader Morari Bapu in Britain.
At 43, he will join the ranks of Tony Blair who was also 43 when he became the Prime Minister in 1997. Blair was the youngest person to hold the apex office since Lord Liverpool in 1812, at the age of 42.

His party's manifesto says that the party will "work to establish a new special relationship with India, the world's largest democracy".

It also commits the party to "work towards greater stability in Afghanistan and Pakistan" and support India's bid for a seat in the UN Security Council.

Speaking at a recent 'Ram Katha' event addressed by Morari Bapu in Wembley, Cameron said the Hindus' commitment to hard work, family values and patriotism found resonance in the "British way of life".

He addressed a similar Morari Bapu event in Leicester some time ago. Wembley has a large Hindu population, and in 2008 Britain's state-funded Hindu school was established in the London borough.

Britain's Hindus constitute the third largest religious group after Christianity and Islam.
Heaping praise on British Hindus, he said members of the community, "don't just contribute to our society. You shine a light on how we must live".

Cameron said: "Hindus are the most family-orientated community in Britain. You are more likely to stay married, keep your families together and especially look after your elderly".
"While maintaining their religious and cultural traditions, British Hindus have consistently shown, through their service, their patriotism, their contribution to our society, that they are truly British too".

Picking on research conducted by the respected Runnymede Trust titled "Connecting British Hindus", Cameron supported the growing demand that Hindus in Britain should be called "British Hindus" or "British Indians" and not "British Asians".

The Tory leader also stressed the importance of role models within the community.
Although there have been moves to remove barriers of race and ethnicity, more needed to be done to encourage minorities to take up careers in politics, law and the armed forces, Cameron said.

"I want to see more people from your and other minority communities playing their rightful role in helping to run our country to make it a better place for us all to live in.

"The Hindu community is a shining example of the can-do, will-do attitude we need in our country," he said.

. .
I am insulted, he only speaks of Hindu's .

This is BJP pandering.
India should not be represent by Hinduism alone.
You take all its people.

what about India muslims
Jains
and sikhs and so on

his generalised comments on Hinduism , are the same as saying all Muslims are terrorists.
except this is a positive connotation as opposed to a negative one.

I hope this man will not be PM.
I don't like his statements , or what he was attempting to do with them

lol

Previous Prime Minister Gordon Brown has become an honorary Hindu, taking the name Govardhan Brown. :woot: Brits at their best! :bunny:

.
Labour was/is and will remain the best UK political party. They always had very soft policies for the foreigners and the majority of the peoples in Britain always admired their policies in development projects. The only reason why the lost these elections are that the peoples of britain have been fed up of this WoT and wants peace now. They accuses Labour party of going too far in this WoT and gaining nothing in response. They made peoples fool of bylogical weapons in Iraq and in result nothing came out of it and on top of that the recession in Britain encouraged peoples to give an opportunity to another Leader this time and not to forget the recent corruption in Labour party too lost some votes in Pro-English areas.

My family has always voted for Labour and this is the first time when we did not vote for Labour in my life

What kind of an Indian are you? Your country's majority is of Hindu religion. When measuring a country by its origins, always its ancestry is taken into notice.

Your country's trademark and ancestry points towards Hinduism. Why are you ashamed of it? You should be happy that he's respecting the ancient tradition of your country.

You are a strange Indian!

I am an atheist.

My nations may have an Hindu majority , but that is only a statistic , religion has not place in politics.I feel very strongly about that.

I know my ancestry very well.
and it consists of more then Hinduism. it is only a religion, I respect people and their actions. religion is just as important as a post code to me.

And for you information.

India also created Bhuddism , Janism and Sikhs

and was one of the most powerful Islamic empire for a period of its time.A period of time when Hindu , Muslim Secularism existed, under Akbar. The first man to ever question one religions right to claim the absolute truth over the other.

You clearly don't know Indian history , as you pretend as if it only consists of Hinduism.

Our trade mark has always been secularism, science and wealth.

The reason India has so many different cultures and religions is because of its secularism.

The reason why Indian astronomy has always been ahead of it time in Ancient India(doing in one golden era , what Europe took 100's of years to see, That they earth was not the centre of the universe, we never put religious shackles on our thinkers). why in ancient India it was the world leader in metallurgy(see iron pillar for example). And why today India's flag is on the moon , to rest their for decades, after successfully being part on the discovery of Water on the moon. Is all because of its science

The Reason why the Muslims came to India , Why the British came to India. They all came to achieve power, wealth and glory . and they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. who ever has held the sub-continent , has always been one of the most power people the world. Why today India is the 2nd fastest growing economy. and a rising military and political power. Is all because of it wealth

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clearly i have not shortage of National pride or identity

You are a strange Indian!

I have perspective.

I am just an informed Indian.
One of many

You should be thankful to the Hindus of Britain. Amongst the growing hatred for asians everywhere, the Hindus in Britain have been successful in changing the image and thinking of a large portion of Europeans regarding india, its people, and culture.

Hindus have proved that whereever they go, they become assets to the host nation and not liability and we all should be proud of this.

You just need to broaden the horizon of your thinking to accept the facts.

But the problem arises when someone mistakes Indians as Hindus. May be it's true geographically more or less, but not religiously.

Lol, India is pluralistic society, you will find lots of 'strange Indian' as well as not so strange Indian. And also it's not about being ashamed of one's ancestry, traditions, but to notify that other religious groups also have the same right to being proud of their ancestry and being Indian.

dude why bringing in BJP here...? completly OT.
honestly speaking they r the only true secular party in India...others are just pseudo-sickularists.
Which party wants uniform civil code(all religion are equal) -BJP
BJP have never said that Hindus should get reservation, should get welfare first, that Amarnath or vaishnodevi trips be subsidised.
Then how can u equate BJP with communalism..?
Yeah they came to power by using hindutva plank....but which party doesnt use religion in India..?
When it is perfectly secular,non-communal to use Muslim,Christian votebanks why the pseudo-sickularists cry wolf when a party says every citizen should be equal and has a hindutva (all are same) agenda..?
Isnt it just plain hypocrisy??

.
Calm down my friends......:)

we are Not hindu, muslim, sikh, jain or any thing else.

we are just Indian.

please keep this in mind, you will much more relax.( saying form personal exp.)

Manmohansingh worship Guru Nanak, Sonia Gandhi to Jesus, Advani to Ram and former President A.P.J. Abdulkalam (And my hero) to Allah...

One thing bond them all , and that's they all are INDIAN.

Now let's discuss strategic advantage we can get from U.K.

.
David Cameron is going to be a better leader for UK considering its current circumstances. Tony Blair was great but i don't think Gordon Brown was capable enough to become the Prime Minister of Great Britain.

Cameron though not experienced leader but i am very optimistic he shall bring the bright future for the peoples living in UK and prove himself to be a better leader than Gordon Brown

yeah i completely agree with u....It is the INDIAN nes in our blood that keeps us together united inspite of this vast diffrence on caste, ethnic, linguistic and religious grounds.
But what prompted me to reply was the common refrain that i ve found among many ppl who continue to harbor the wrong perception that BJP is communal and all others like Congress,SP,Communists who shamelessly pander to the Muslim/Christian votebanks are secular.

p.s. :Now bak to topic...

I am agree with you what you say.

What Cameron wanted to say is that Hindu way of living suits to any country as we believe in spritual uplift and universal brotherhood. Since in UK all the religons are present, they can evaluate it better. It doesn't mean India consists only Hinduism however, all the religions in our country including Islam and Christinity have this element of spritual uplift. It is very easy to see that muslims and christians in our country is not at all similar to their middile eastern and western counterpart. They have evolved to become an Indian muslim or christian.

All in all another good news for India.

By the way, I won't mind having a bank holiday on Diwali and Holi in UK :D

.
Why do you guys have to bring secularism in this? Are you ashamed of being hindu? If this guy is saying something good about hindus , whats wrong ?
I really appreciate this guy for whatever he has said.

And how does BJP come into this? The least i can say is that BJP is doing great work in all states under it. See the development in gujarat , karnataka etc vs development in UP, Bihar etc. Secular or not , its a good party. If parties like muslim league and other christian parties have a right to exist ,then so does BJP
