C-130 over Islamabad

I today arrived in Islamabad and in 3 to 4 hours since my arrival I have witnessed 3 to 4 times C-130 roaming over Islamabad. What the hell is going on ?

On topic. Touch and go sort of training. It's a normal thing. My hospital is right underneath its flight path so I get to see that a lot.
Btw I noticed one C130 with a FLIR under its nose.

I have been to Islamabad several times before but this time something is going on. In only 5 hours I have seen C-130 for 7 times. @Windjammer @DESERT FIGHTER
Chaklala / Nur Khan is C-130 Home base, so most C-130 flights originate from there, apart from their transport duties, their flying training is also conducted from there where you will see these aircraft circling over Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

i see a C-130 5 times a day, as my bus stop is close to Nur Khan Air Base, so no biggie

Nur Khan is home to Transport Conversion and this for sure is the touch n go phase of some course like conversion or captain course. Had seen it alot. They usually fly at the junction of Islamabad and Pindi and one can easily spot them from Faizabad/ Pir Wadai area but would rarely find them in sectors like F-6/7/8/9/10 and so on but would also spot them in almost all of I sectors starting from I-8. Also they do fly with FLIR during some VIP visit to AHQ.

Some of the C-130's have been retrofitted with surveillance features to assist in the FATA operations.

The 'upgrades' were not done with VIP security as the primary goal.

"The [Lockheed Martin] C-130Bs we are operating, retrofitted with the [Star Safire III] FLIRS [forward looking infrared systems] are doing a great job. Not just for their ISR capabilities but to help us carry out precise targeting," said ACM Aman.

When operations started in 2008 the F-16s in inventory - which were acquired in the early-1980s - could only be used for daytime strikes, but this changed with the arrival of more capable aircraft, he added.

"The [Thomson-CSF] ATLIS-II pods were only good for day ops, but when we acquired the [Lockheed Martin] Sniper targeting pods there was a marked increase in our capabilities and we could strike these people day and night," added the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), who was promoted from Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Operations) on 19 March.

"We have put special focus on mapping the areas with the DB-110s. These pods have really helped us," he added. "Sniper used with GBU-10 or GBU-12 is now our standard fit."
