Bush gives Malik a pat on the back

ISLAMABAD: Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik has turned up as one man in the visit of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to the US, who has changed Washington's opinion towards Pakistan in the so-called war on terrorism.

Malik admirably assisted the prime minister during his interaction with various leaders particularly US President George W Bush, who as a special reference to Malik gave him a pat on the back for his role in this war on terror.

Well-placed diplomatic sources told The News that Rehman Malik briefed his interlocutors about the role India has been playing in Afghanistan by actively assisting some rogue elements to malign Pakistan.

US authorities were impressed that the evidence, which was produced by the Pak head of Interior Ministry, brought certain facts, which were hidden erstwhile, to the fore. Rehman Malik has informed American authorities that Indians are fully involved in tribal areas in Pakistan and were providing all sorts of assistance to those militants who are targeting Nato forces and Pakistani troops simultaneously.

He clarified Pak armed forces position and told the US authorities that ISI is fighting against terrorism like any other peace-loving force. He asked Americans not to be influenced by Indian malicious campaign against Pakistani institutions.

Lets wait and see what course of action US takes on this issue. If US is serious in its relations with Pakistan than it shall tell India to stop intefering in Pakistan's internal affairs. If US itself is involved than its a different ball game.

This is a very interesting development that has taken place. I too agree with ejaz that lets see how far US is interested in hearing this out and then solving the issue. I in an another thread said we cannot simply rule out US involvement in the area either, the reason being that i for one highly doubt that the US does not have any clue about what the Indians and Afghans are up too? There blind eye turning to this issue raises concerns.

I agree. It is high time Pakistan became a partner rather than a secretary taking note. We must take the offensive to the World and highlight the problems that exist in that particular area, our concerns, our efforts and how they have been responded to. If the PM cant do it some other senior diplomat can do so. even if the Americans are involved, thhey would curb their efforts if we made enough noise in the international media. We must make the world take notice
