on a lighter note, where is the freedom of expression when sbdys face is covered !!!:azn::azn:

Not at all surprised that you don't see the irony in your own comment. While you are condemning imposition of dress code by state, you are perfectly okay with imposition of dress code by religion. Dress code, in both the cases, is 'defined by others'. Is it not?

You're absolutely right.

Everybody knows that women don't have a brain and can't make decisions for themselves.
If they are wearing a burqa it couldn't possibly be because they actually decided to wear it; it must have been imposed on them by someone else.

Thank god there are people like you out there who are willing to save these brainless idiots from their mental servitude.

White man's burden. Yea!

Good move Egypt.

Actually, this move is probably the dictatorial US-puppet government's attempt to curb the spread of Islamic opposition parties. They have bought in, either mindlessly or deliberately, into the Western media stereotype that anybody with a beard or a hijab is a fundamentalist.

Many people in Pakistan, whom I respect on other matters, have unfortunately fallen into the same trap, e.g. Nadeem Paracha, Pervez Hoodbhoy, et alia.

Why the hell people have to force their 'dress code'(no doubts there are limits)
Forcing them will not do any good &

I don't understand why some people are saying it 'bold move'

I mean is this wolrd such a place that the decent clothing Code also needs legislation,Don't interfere this mush with lives of people

This is not a Issue but it is been transformed into one

What hell is Problem with the people around woman with Burka??? Y the hell should she follow the dress code defined by others, Let them decide what to Follow

Well i must correct you on your errogant views !

You told everyone that what do u think about the Hijab or the Burka , wel its your personal thinking .
You can decide what to wear and what you should'nt this is a single personal layout of a life of a women in any society.
Now there is something called the RELIGION.
I do not know about you that wether or not you follow one , or not or if you do which one is it!

I just want to clarify some arguments given by you according to my religion the ISLAM which is the most practiced one in Eygpt.

Thousands of years ago humans used to live naked , men , women , children . Then they learnt how to use the leaves to cover their coverable parts.
Islam came 1500 years ago , when the women were burried alive and her birth was the sighn of GOD's curse!!!!!!
Our prophet PBUH given rights to Women by the will of Allah ( the God) they were called as the REHMAT of Allah in Islam, they were entitled to Inherit ( no other religion does that )
Allah orderd women in the our holy book the Quran , to cover themselves ( it is a sighn of dignity and feminine pride not the opression as people like you think about it)
In my religion , Women are respected , they are Mums , sisters , wives and all other roles and they are given Equal but different Rights.

The Islamic role model for women is the Daughter of Prophet PBUH , Syeda Fatima (R.A) who never exposed her face to any Ghair mehram ( few men are allowed to see the face Father , brother , husband , son)

Not wearing a hijab is Disgrace ( you called it being bold , Boldness leads to disgrace one day)

The example in islam is the War of Karbala where the Pious , Female members of The Prophet's family were forced to give away their Hijabs and expose their faces by the YAZIDI forces.
We muslims curse and will keep this practice up till the domesday on the 10th of Muharam ( the first month in the islamic calander) the Yazidi forces for this act of extreme disgrace.

This same practice is being started , in Eygpt too ,and we the Muslims must Condem this action.

What next....Call for Jihad on Egypt....................

No. First a Fatwa. Then mass cursing. Terrorism planning. Then Jihad. Fidayeen projects. Next plead non guilty on crimes and say damn the Hindus, Jews, Christians, CIA, RAW, Mossad, India, US, Israel. Then say non state actors. We are ourselves victims. Then say give aid or the terror will continue.

First, use census data, like the Nazis, to identify people by religion and send fanatical mobs, escorted by police, to murder them in their homes (Punjab 1984, Gujarat 2002).

Also, send hundreds of thousands of unprofessional and dishonorable army thugs to terrorize, rape and kill unarmed civilians in 'troubled' areas (Kashmir).

Next, install a few token individuals in high visibility posts in a sham display of national unity.

Meanwhile, finger all your neighbors. When a big neighbor gets pissed off and breathes down your neck, then smile obsequiously and lie about wanting only friendship.

This has nothing to do with Pakistan-India. So I wont bother responding

Most of the guys here are talking about the womens - human rights about the freedom to wear whatever she wants.
What about the cases where the women are forced to wear hijab & burqas bcos of pressure from the mullas / religious people / peer pressure.
Where are the human rights these people speak about in Saudi Arabia or in the most the muslim world ( exceptions being Pakistan to a certain extent)

Why are you bringing this in?

Look, if some party forces individuals to do something , its not necessary that forcing to do the opposite is a must. If radicals force women to wear hijab than the anti-radicals shouldn't FORCE women to not to wear hijab.

And of course these are university students and they know what is right and wrong for them so don't force them to do this.

Yes I am well aware of the usual arguments in favour of burqa/hijab - hey, they CHOOSE to wear those. Yes of course they 'CHOOSE'. Who is denying that. My post was in response to a very specific contradictory point of view of a member.

And in this regard, a quick question: Would they have 'CHOSEN' to wear those had their religion not prescribed those? If the answer is NO, then how much of that CHOICE of theirs is independent one?

Yes of course. Its your favourite whipping boy all along. Why am I not surprised.

The eyes are the window to the soul.
Or are you one of those nerds who never makes eye contact when talking to people. ;)

As a piece of trivia, the eyes and area around it is one of the few clues to differentiate a genuine smile from a fake smile.

umairp already answered that: religion is also a choice, at least for adults.

Having said that, my personal view is that Islam asks people, men and women, only to dress modestly; the specific injunction for covering the face is a seventh century Arabian tribal custom. I find it anachronistic and, as I mentioned earlier, impractical in modern society (security, face recognition).

However, the solution is to educate the clerics to phase out the custom instead of making laws against it.

Yes of course. Its your favourite whipping boy all along. Why am I not surprised.

Who do you suppose establishes stereotypes if not the media?
