You can understand their logic to banning the burqa and legally this would not breach the human rights of muslims living in the EU, however a simple intrepretation of this article part 1 & 2 would not apply to the wearing of Hijabs.
really?
and what happened to your cousin afterwards?
I find it amazing that the ban on Hijab in Tunisia has never been covered by our press.
No worries, their is no mix-up, countries contemplating a ban (like France and Belgium) are only talking about "full cover" variants like Niqap(?) and Burqa not Hijab, that is not in the policy discussion in a single European country.
Oh and once again, there is no such thing as "Islamophobia"(a phobia is an irrational fear of something), because it is not an unreasonable fear to be afraid and/or critical of literalistic Islamic ideology.. Look at Saudi-Arabia, Iran, Sudan, Somalia etc...
I'm not talking about terrorism necessarily here, but Sharia law, which is barbaric and medieval and on the rise not only in currently moderate Muslim countries.
Their might be "Muslimophobia" and it is wrong to blame a group so diverse as Muslims (who to a large extent are not literalistic..) collectively, but to be afraid of the ideological elements of Islam is not unreasonable, but on the contrary pretty sensible.
@H2O3C4Nitrogen: Yes that's German Tv, but the band is not from Germany, but Afghanistan I think.
While everyone has considered banning the burqa as only option left, I think there could be another more sensible way to deal with burqa clads... hire females in the security agencies and jama talashi of women be carried out by these female recruits.
Albeit we can talk about such bans on internet, the popular media would really have to be bodacious to carry out such discussion for the sake of developing public opinion.
Banning it, might turn out to be an act inviting furious outrage from public.
Who knows how many suicide bombers and terrorists run thru the security gauntlet wearing Burqa. Since we are in a state of war, there should be a total ban on Burqa in all Pakistan. Women are free to wear Hijab and cover all of the body with loose garments but face must be left open so that one can recognize who is the person really is.
For all those who cry out that it is against Islam. I strongly dispute it. In the Sura Ahzab it is not mentioned that face must also be covered and there is a Hadith by Hazrat Aysha (RA) that face can be left uncovered.
Most important point is that Islam does allow exceptions in case of special circumstances; for example I was personally advised by an Alazhar scholar that alcohol is permitted for medicinal purposes. Isnt catching suicide bombers important enough to ban wearing of Burqa?
