Dhaka University students protest Abrar Fahad’s brutal beating and death on Monday, October 7, 2019

Students in different universities take to streets demanding capital punishment for the murderers

Abrar Fahad’s murder in his own dormitory on the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) campus has sparked overwhelming protests all over the country.

Students of several universities demonstrated yesterday demanding justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the killers, while netizens burst with anger criticizing the murder, allegedly committed by some leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling party.

Abrar, a second year student of Buet’s electrical and electronic engineering department, was beaten to death for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir — the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

At Dhaka University (DU), students brought out a procession in protest against the murder. The procession started from the TSC intersection around 12pm, paraded the campus and then ended at Buet campus, showing solidarity with the demonstrating students there.

Several hundred DU students, led by Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Vice-President Nurul Haque Nur, also held a protest rally at the TSC intersection around 12:30pm.

Addressing the rally, DUCSU Social Welfare Secretary Akhter Hossain said it was clear who killed Abrar. “We want immediate exemplary punishment of the killers so that no such incident can take place in the future.”

In the afternoon, BUET students had cordoned off the provost’s office at the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall, where Abrar resided and was murdered, asking the authorities to release the CCTV camera footage in order to identify the killers.

They demonstrated there for over an hour, before the rain started and the senior students urged them to remain patient.

Outrage spreads

Meanwhile, students at Rajshahi University (RU) demonstrated on their campus in protest against the murder around 2pm yesterday and at one point blockaded Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway at the RU main entrance for half an hour.

At a brief rally there, students said that the state has failed to ensure safety for all citizens. Students have fallen victim to oppression and attacks as many were beaten at different universities in recent times. All of them were deprived of justice, they said.

At Jahangirnagar University (JU), teachers, students and different socio-cultural organisations held a human chain and protest rally on campus demanding justice for Abrar.

JU archaeology student Kabbo Krittika said no person shall be killed for following a different ideology, but this murder happened because of the culture of impunity in the country.

Students at Khulna University (KU), wearing black masks, held a human chain in front of the main entrance of the university demanding justice for Abrar.

At another demonstration at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet, students said that Abrar’s murder was a result of the occupation and fear created by Chhatra League.

Students at all these universities and other educational institutions across the country demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers, and urged the government to take necessary steps so that no other student would fall victim to such brutality.

People were also seen coming down heavy on the killers and demanding justice for Abrar on social networking sites, including Facebook.

Bangladesh Chhatra Federation in a media statement also condemned the murder and urged the authorities to ensure the arrest and punishment of the Chhatra League leaders responsible.

At Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Tangail, students demonstrated yesterday evening in protest against the murder.

Tying their mouths with black cloth, they lit candles in Abrar’s memory at the Prattay 71 Chhatra on the campus during the demonstration.

Political parties condemn

BNP yesterday condemned Abrar’s murder and claimed he was killed for protesting the government's anti-state deal with India.

Armed goons brutally killed Abrar so that no one will dare to speak, write or raise their voice against the misdeeds and wrongdoings of the government, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a statement.

Gono Songhoti Andolon also condemned the murder and demanded cancellation of the anti-state deal with India.

Fahim Reza Shovon in Dhaka, Hedait Hossain Moll in Khulna, Shoyaib Rahman in JU, Tousif Kaiyum in RU, and Zahid Hassan in SUST contributed to this report

India is very special for Bangladesh.
yep! it must be since you seem to be copying them. they lynch beef-eating suspects and you lynch people suspected of being Muslim

Look at this little snippet. The bastards are getting bolder by the day. Final solution needed...these idiots are digging their own grave.

Amit is a Hindu scum and the main plotter of the murder.

A life full of hopes and dreams snuffed out just for having some relatively innocuous opinions and Facebook posts about India (which is shared by the majority people in Bangladesh).

Are they going to murder everyone in Bangladesh now for having unfriendly-to-India opinions? When will Bangladeshis grow some balls and get something done??

Where is Hindu-friendly Sheikh Hasina now? Cat got your tongue?

Stop BS'ing.

Show me an example where Muslims murder Hindus and get away with it in Hindu-majority India.
It could also be a personal rivalry. There are millions of people who posted against this Indo Bangla pact, till now no one got killed.

I think the killers were looking for an opportunity for a long time and now they got it.

But it could also be true that he was killed for writing against India's dominance. God knows which is true.

did you not have BD flag in your profile not long ago? have you lost your citizenship or am I in a nightmare?

. . .
Sheikh mujib got fucked exactly because of the opposite reason, because he realized India’s intentions... why do you think Hasina and her offsprings are still alive? Because she gave in unlike her father.

Very much agree with this bold part. And for the rest no comment. But honestly giving India water and get nothing from teesta really made me disappointed!

BCL doing what it does best. They likely want lot lot more of it. The void of 3 million needs actual sustenance in karmic reality. Room after all needs to be made for the rohingyas to be merged long term inside....and all the other returnees coming with time.

BCL just needs to cross-correlate as required with BAL in the good relevant "voter-complaint" data they got in the last election cycle. Esp for those troublesome 5% seats that had the temerity to not give a 100% result for glorious shonar BAL.

As BAL kangaroo courts and hangs more real enemies down the road, they will let these allies slip out after small slap on wrist.

LOL, its just getting started. Hope you all get lot more pissed off. All the while your govt says its enjoying its role as wife to a good hubby.

This is the final reality of what you were, what you are and what you always will be.
You're a sad, rotten & pathetic excuse for a human being.I pity you & the people you associate with.

Funniest part is, despite numerous reports and evidences, mods keep from permanently banning this false-flag.

@The Eagle @Dubious
I don't have authority to issue a permanent ban...mention admin ..

@WebMaster this guy riyad has been causing chaos in the BD section since forever now.
Kindly look into it.

.
On the YouTube comments section have a look, the friction is usually caused by Indians when there is something fruitful going on between BD and another Muslim nation (say Pak).
We can together beat them if we act intelligently and do not fall for their false propaganda.

Are you kidding me??? As i mentioned in another post, it is the PDF where Indian gets credit for lot of things which even we do not know if it is our due...
No, verification & source are always good.

This guy was a false flagger RSS bhakt from day one. I saw his comments and it became apparent to me years ago.
Then why did you not report or tackle him openly. Once I'm convinced that someone is a false flagger, I report & let rest of the forum know as well. Though I admit, I'm not right all the time but on most occasions my assessment has proven right.

Meaning?
Riyad is Hindu. He can't help it.

BD.must evict all Buddhists and Hindus asap. Let them feel the pain.

Typical Sylheti. Religion is not important here. The killers were from BAL which is their main identification. Don't forget BAL cadres also killed Biswajit some years ago who was also a Hindu.
Blah Blah Blah, read what I have said, again! And, prove me wrong if you can.

We Sylhetis has highest per capita contribution in Bangladeshi economy, we shaped this countrys economic model, we are giving away our natural resources for this countrys growth without any complaint. We are part of Bangladesh for a reason. I can see that reason is being threatened and it hurts...
